NaNo

Is anyone doing NaNo this November?

For those who don't know:

Quote:

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and -- when the thing is done -- the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
I thought it might be a cool idea for NPF to form our own NaNo clan. I know TWOP has their own every November, and I think a couple over websites have them. We can help to motivate eachother and keep us on the track to 50,000 words!

I`m in.

LOVE to write, and we both know that there are far more of us out there.
Name the genre, time and place.

If you have a specific or exact story to fill, can work to that, too.

Thanks for the invite.

Well, no, I'll make my own story. You make your own. You choose the genre, but we all work together to help eachother get over the 50,000 word limit (this is my third year, I didn't make it the first two times. Oi!)

Corporate Evil 09-11-2006 01:53 PM

I signed up last year, but never wrote a damn thing.

Funka Genocide 09-11-2006 02:19 PM

This sounds interesting, I think I'll give it a shot. Maybe at the end of November we can all post our stories (or links rather, 50k words is a bit much for a post...) and be horribly delighted by the madness of trying to cram a novel into turkey season...

or maybe I'll just keep it to myself.

It seems really interesting (especially with my recent craze with writing in my freetime), but I doubt I would be able to get 50k done, even if they gave me a year. (I always change my mind and change ideas.)

I'm definitely going to try NaNoWriMo again, though I've failed utterly in reaching the goal for the past two years.

Writing's just in my blood or something.

AHA! The light is on now.

Thank you for straightening the thoughts. :D

Sounds like fun; I love writing as well.

Solid Snake 09-12-2006 03:23 PM

So we got me, Whale Biologist, Roy D Mylote, Funka Genocide, AnotherOne and possibly CelesJessa diggin' this so far?

I like the lineup.
