Avatar RP IV, Discussion IV: GM Iron-fistiness!

Starting with the most important issue, as others have already told you Hawk, an action like that is quite unacceptable. Firstly, you said the effect of someone else's attack with little explanation of why that might be so and more importantly, something like eye tearing is completely inappropriate. That kind of thing with how it was done is just plain godmodding.

Since you are quite new here, I won't go so far to count it as the one chance for such things that I'm giving in this RP. However, that section of the post is now removed from continuity.

I'll now pull out a definition for godmodding for your edification. I do so enjoy quoting myself after all. Exact definitions tend to vary from person to person.

Now, this is only really godmodding if they take excessive liberties with it - some small amount of including actions of other characters is often necessary to write a post or make it more interesting. As long as what they do is reasonable, respectful and well written, its fine. It is essentially the declaration of an powerful effect without giving others a chance to respond that is the bad part.

Anything that makes your character invulnerable/unstoppable is also god modding. This is the aspect of god modding I am concerned about in this RP. It is really not very interesting if there's no challenge for the characters. Thus, godmodding is always a bad thing.

There's also the factors of how much effort is behind a character's actions. Obviously a character burning all their power on some big attack will be able to get something a bit more intimidating and powerful than endless lobbing of fireballs or whatever. Essentialy, often effort = power, though its best not to over rely on that. There's the effect of descriptiveness too - obviously a well written, well described action would be taken more seriously than 'I cast a spell'.

In other news, to remove the mystery of how Bruticus somehow managed to stop a spell earlier by shooting it once and for all, see his 'Solves Problems With Violence' ability.

Of course, don't go too excessive with this (see Newb's suggestion from the last discussion thread), but it is intended to be able to solve certain conundrums that are usually not stopped in such a way. My latest post for example. While I think of it, yes, with the blast shield down.

Finally, I should remind people of this seeing how several haven't mentioned anything about it. You either have horrible things happening to you because of the food or you have horrible things happening to you because the entire jungle is trying to kill you.

Hmm, ok so I've fucked up big time here. Sorry:( . I had wanted to try and blind Bruticus even before Skyshot had posted (I had a suspicion we may have to fight him), and I had planned out what I wanted to do with that post and the posts that came after it. One thing was going to lead to another and another and so on. The eye ripping thing just seemed like the only way to really try and hinder the only thing that I could really fight (and actually be effective against), and I figured he would probably still be able to fight even after that.

POS, somehow I missed your post about calling shotgun on fighting Bruticus. However, you did say we didn't have to stay out of it, and it was essential to what I had had planned. That was why I went after him. If I had realised you wanted him for yourself I would've PMed you. Maybe I should have said what I was going to do on the disscusion board before hand, but I didn't really have the time until after you had made your post about fighting him alone, which I missed. Again, sorry.

So to clear up any inconsistancies (and because the whole thing is ignored now anyway), my last post has been deleted. I will re-write and try and come up with something else tonight. But I'm not sure how effective I'm now going to be in this fight due to the nature of these opponents (that being the whole reason I went after Bruticus in the first place). I may just succumb to some nasty status effects of the food for a while until I see an opening.

Once again, I'm sorry about all this, I'll try and be more careful now.

Well, I was just trying to be polite. For once. Shame on me. Anyway, it's cool. Live and learn. Or die.

Well, really, Bruticus seems to be more like Anakin Skywalker with the blast shield down. Luke, on the other hand, just get zapped in the ass repeatedly by a training droid.

Well, I found my Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD today, so I felt compelled to add the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to Mauve's arsenal of awesomeness. Man, I love that movie. :D

Just as a note, since the halucinations have caused me to believe that Thog's stat fruit is baconfruit, I'm slowly changing into a musclebound freak.

Anybody who wishes to notice this and/or get blasted at by one of my stray shots, feel free.

Also, Arhra, I'm going to make some reversewood (As seen in Xanth!) and drop it into the stat fruit tree. I'm giving you a heads-up so you can decide what effect this will have, seeing as how reversewood doesn't always do what you think it will.

I'm expecting it to make any fruit eaten after that to boost intelligence and make the consumer more frail, but hey, you never know what exactly this stuff will do.

Fenris 09-24-2006 12:50 PM

Yeah, I'm just kinda poppin' back in here with no real rhyme or reason for it. Sorry, I just really couldn't think of a good reason for Fenris to show up when he did, but I used the "I was just sleeping" excuse. Sorry, guys. :(

I'm going to do everyone a favor and pull out. I haven't gotten to check the internet very much since I started my break from school, and I have yet to secure a wireless network in my house. As such, I've only been checking in about once a week, and that's not enough to RP with.

Bailey 09-24-2006 08:44 PM

Okay.

There's a lightning blast headed straight at you in case you want to write a pulling out post.

That quote is so true. It basically should be a slogan for all NPF.
