Ye olde anciente gamese...

Because everyone knows to make words seem old, you add an 'e' to the end. And also because I'm tired of every 2nd and 3rd thread being about an old Squaresoft game.

Anyway, recently I've been buying lots of new games that are really old games. Allow me to explain a bit further. I've been buying collections of old arcade games, like Midway Arcade Treasures, and collections of games from ancient systems, like Activision Anthology. Why? Because this was the stuff I grew up on. The games may not have much substance now, but I can still sit there and play a game like Tempest for hours. And all those old activision games kick ass, because they're short and addictive. Well, here's the 'old' game collections I have as of yet:

Activision Anthology (PS2)
Midway Arcade Treasures (PS2)
Atari Anniversary Edition Redux (PSX)

Do any of you have this love of old games that I do, and do you have your own recommendations for people to check out?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I still have some commercials to unlock yet in Activision Anthology. Groovy.

Well, there are a couple of devices that you plug into your TV and you can play Atari games on them. I've seen one at GameStop for about 25 bucks.

Bwa ha ha. I have an Atari. With a bunch of games and controllers. It's so rad.

Well, the thing with those is A) They're more expensive than most of the PS2 collection packages (those usually run $19.99), B) They tend to break really realy easily, C) The generally have less games than the collections for the console systems.

But otherwise, they are cool.

I just picked up Midway Arcade Treasures...I am the master of Root Beer Tapper. I also have Namcomuseum on PS2. I think the first game I ever played was Tetris, so of course I have Tetris Worlds (Xbox).

I really like the older games, mostly because while growing up I hung out at arcades. As far as consoles go, I started out on Atari, but I was really young, so i think the point when I really felt I was a gamer was during my Genesis days.

m3h, retro games suck
they havent stood the test of time, which is why they are retro

classic games are hgood though, like link's awakening and pokemon red/blue (very recently a totally legitimate way to catch mew was discovered, showing that it still has many fans)

Retro games rock, man. Why? Because they're just pure and simple little bundles of instant joy. No frills or fluff, no complex goals, just pure and simple gaming at its best. Ah, it so rocks.

Oh, and you better not be knocking Tempest. I love that game greatly, as it is sheer joy in vector graphics. Fun times, fun times.

I have one of those $20 old game things... It's not easy to break (I've stepped on it a couple of times), and it has 86 games on it...

Though, none of the games are known games, more of the cheap knock offs (Like the big bags of cereal you can buy, not the brand names). Though, it's version of Pac Man is much better then real Pac Man. Much harder, thought there are only two 'ghost', they are smart, and you can't kill them.

Some of my favorite old games are:
Maniac Mansion (come on, you can't hate a game where you can actually DIE for good and blow up a hamster in the microwave. ^^)

River City Ransom (I liked buying the teddy bear near the end ^^ )

Shadowgate (and in this one, you can kill youself. "Use-arrow-on-self: "you plung the arrow deep into your chest, blood gushes out. That wasn't very smart! Now who will stop the demon lord?)
