The ULTIMATE Game?
I never found on like this in this forum, so I'll start :whee:
What components would you consider to be part of the ULTIMATE Game? Example, good graphics(2d or 3d? mixed?), The soundtrack, style of a battle system, genre, interface, etc. I'll give you MY dream ideal for the ultimate game... -3D Graphics, as realistice as possible -Game must be compatible on all systems with the ability to interact with other systems(Eg, a PC gamer playing with a Wii Gamer) -a first person RPG (Like Oblivion) -ability to plug in your own music and let others hear your music if wanted -ability to mute people you don't wanna hear :p -Race creation - the ability to create a race that is unique to the person, or choose from a list of pre-made races -Custom Class - Create a vocation special to you, or select from a list of pre-made classes -Weapon customization - Ability to forge weapons from selected materials to create a weapon the user will appreciate, and name the weaon Wide Environment - The environment is fully interactable, like get punched and fly threw the air and smash trees in half Large array of Monsters - The more the merrier PvP island - everywhere is safe from your fellow men until you get on this island where it's survival of the fittest Animal taming - Tame certian animals to ride on, fly on the back of a baby dragon, or the bakc of a noble steed That is to my beleif going to be one hell of an awsome game, and it would take a hell of a long time to program :p Now, let us see your ideal game, and PLEASE don't just say a game that already exists and say that would be the ideal game. use your brain. |
One word:
Spore. ...When the fuck is that coming out again? Seriously, I know you say to use my imagination, but Spore is THE game I've always dreamed off. Ever since I was like eight and first played Nintendo. It is everything I want. Evolve a race, not just create it--evolve it. Then take your evolved sentient race and evolve its society, and then evolve other races, have them interact, etc. I mean, really, the game leaves nothing to be desired for me. Short of that... I suppose I'd like to see a constantly evolving MMORPG. By constantly evolving I mean like... I do the slay the dragon quest, and the dragon is slain forever, and new stuff comes up. No repeating quests. You do something and it changes the world. That would be sweet. I don't really care much for specifics past that... |
I want the open endedness of PC RPGs, with the plot and characters of console RPGs. I want there to be a night and day, and I don't want an overworld map. I want travel to be something similar to Zelda's OoT, but with a lot more places to go. I wouldn't mind having the buy rations and such, but other games that have done this tend to make you starve to death entirely too fast.
I'd like to see some aspects of Inindo integrated, like the political stuff, and having a war strategy sim mixed in with the gameplay. Oh, and the way Inindo did its recruitable characters too; that'd be cool to have. I liked how they seemed to have their own lives when they weren't in your party. They would travel around, and sometimes even wind up hunting the bounty on your head. Like I said before, one of the main things I want is open endedness. That's not just about how you talk to people affecting your ending, but how you play. If I have to kill the king, I want to be able to have choices like, climbing over the castle wall at night, and going on a ninja stealth mission, or taking my party and storming the gates, or even getting the nobility to try and sieze control, giving me my chance to go after the king. That's the kind of open endedness I want. Edit: And yes, I want to see the effects of my actions, like Krylo was saying, but moreso. To continue the previous example, if I choose to supplant the king with some random noble, I want to see the map changed, and I want to see the effect his actions have on the kingdom. If I assassinate the king secretly, I want to see accusations flying, declarations of war being made, and all hell breaking loose. If I break in through the front door, I want to be faced with responsibility for my basically acting like a god. |
I'd say that a good storyline is a must in any perfect game. Also I'd have to add that there is a game that fits many of those bills and many more with the help of hacks. Wait for it.....Baldur's Gate. This game has a slew of monsters, class and race creation through weidu, as well as a large world to explore through 2 complete games with expansions. that is one of the games I'd view as "perfect".

I really don't have an idea of specifics but a game that gives me
- the same feeling OoT gave me when I first played it, sort of wonder and childlike giddy joy at once, -as well as having the feeling SoTC gave at bosses, sheer gobsmacked fucking awe -having a bit of MGS style humour, it's there and hilarious but doesn't take from the general seriousness of the game -the occaisional bit of DMC3 style hand bleed challenge, preferable as optional(like the hearts in Zelda) -and most importantly either originality like Pikmin that has me going WTF while grinning like an idiot at joy of something new and awesome, or something like MP, a boost of nostalgia that brings a little tear to the eye, while still being original and incredibly fun to play. -Lasts a long time. - great characters, caring about the heroes, laughing at the comic relief, respecting the anti-heroes/honourable badguys (The End/ MetaKnight) pitying or feeling sad for the tragic villains/heroes(MGS3 spoilersThe Boss), HATING the true villains(Kefka, Revolver Ocelot, Volgin, Officer Tenpenny and motherfucking Revolver Ocelot) and feeling a bit of fear at confronting the ultimate villains (OoT Ganon rising from the ruins, who didn't at least mutter "shit" under their breath) -A story that is interesting. Give me a game that gives me all that and you've got my ultimate game. |

Presumably, sans hive-mind aliens rigging the whole thing as a way to fuck with your brain. But yeah, that'd be pretty cool. |
The ultimate game is any game you have fun playing. I don't care if it isn't perfect, as long as i'm having fun playing it.
That is precisely why i didn't like Chrono Trigger very much. Sure technically it's a great game, but i didn't have fun playing it so i didn't like it. |
A new Rogue Squadron game set in the Extended Universe, preferably during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. That shit would be hot.

Best game...a FPS in VR. Gun peripheral, two gloves to monitor the position of your hands, and a vest of some kind to keep track of where you're shot. No ultra-linear objectives, you get dropped in the battle and you're IN until it's over or you die, perhaps with a few intermissions where you report back to base. Past, present, or future don't make a difference for time era, though I like future's ability to add cool stuff. RPG elements are a must. Promotions, gun and armor upgrades, extra ammo and grenades. A progressive skill system like Elder Scrolls that improves your aim, reload times, etc would be super. But I mean, I wouldn't have time for this game because Spore would be out by then. |
