Another Friggin' Sprite Comic?!

Okay so I know this looks like I registered just to spam, but honestly, I've been an 8BT fan for over 2 years, I've just never really been over to the Forum side of things until recently.

Well, just recently, my long-time admiration for 8BT and my fervent excitement about the MMO-game-in-development, Star Trek: Online, merged and painfully gave birth to a Frankensteinian monster that I lovingly call Spacial Distortions. Since you guys obviously have great taste in sprite comics (you ARE here, after all), I'd love it if any of you would give feedback on mine, good or bad.

The thread title says it all.

At least you've got backgrounds, though. Most Paint sprite comics lack even that.

Sprite Comic Rating: 3.5 Giraffes out of 5
General Comic Rating: 1 Tower of London out of 10

Not laugh out loud hilarious, but pretty good considering it's the first few episodes.

I actually found it pretty funny. The only part that was iffy for me was the AOL speak in that one panel.

If I might make a suggestion... Stroke-effect your word balloons. It really helps them stand out more. (Took me 30-odd of my own comics before I finally started doing it, and I wish I'd started sooner. XP)

My suggestion: MegaMan Sprites require you to open their mouth when they talk. It just looks better. I do like how you move the eyes, and it's overall a very well done comic. That's my one quip about it, though.

Ouch! My feeble attempt at ironic, self-effacing humor has been used to bite me in the webcomic-creating keister!

Thanks for the tip, it's an effect that will start with comic #3.

Gee, I dunno if I'd say "require" - they're just small enough that you can kinda get away with them being tight-lipped talkers. It is very hard to get facial expressions with the Mega Man sprite though, because a full HALF of his entire face is his freaking eyes. I've had to try to use the mouth to its fullest effect, and if I had to make them open it in every frame they spoke, it would look... distracting, I think. Besides, the open-mouth sprite looks GREAT for a "mouth agape in shock" look. I dunno. I'll be experimenting with it in the future, so check back in a few weeks and we'll see....

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far, it's been great! Any more is welcome.

I think it's very good, if you attach the stroke effect as was mentioned before. I really like it, especially the whole exchange about what systems were operative at the Academy. I'd say keep it up! I rate it a four of seven.

True, but I guess I'm just used to seeing the straight line mouth as closed. A good way to use an open mouth sprite is to use a half-pixel line that starts about two pixels in from each side, if I remember right. I know that in 16-bit MegaMan sprites, it just looks wrong with closed mouth talking.

Trust me, it'll look a little more complete. I'd show you examples of my own comic that had MegaMan sprites, but I took it down. =/

Yeah. Talky mouthes do tend to look a little more complete. Other than that, nice work, keep it up. :D

Okay, the third strip was released, and I took the open mouth and stroke-bubbles suggestions. I'm liking it more with these changes - thanks to everyone for helping me with this. Any more input would be great! :)
