So I'm making a RPG.
Yeah.
I'm making ag rpg using a rom for the ZSNES called RPG Maker 2, or something. It'll be QUITE a while before it's done, but in the meantime, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions, beta testers, stuff like that. |
I'll be a beta tester.
|
totally down with this. beta tester, critic, advice guy(can't help you with proogramming, but I know a good story, game, movie when I see it)
|
This is totally in the wrong section. Try putting it in the game section.
|
Yeah, should go in game section.
But, I might have time to test, but as someone who loves to talk, especially when it comes to telling other people what to do, I'll gladly help with constructive criticism. Besides, I've spent a lot of time analyzing what makes games fun, sort of a philosophy of games -- or as close to such a thing as one can get. |
Put me in it.
=D any sugestion from me would be to make it not repetitive.... cant think of anything rightnow though... |
Well, I guess you should work on your basics first.
The Setting: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Western, Horror, Historical Setting or other The Plot: Straightforward quest for the McGuffin, or a tale with lots of plot twists. Bad guy really bad? Those helping the hero, really on the right side? Characters: Blank slates, or do they have backgrounds. Special skills, or just average people turned hero. Length of game/Acts: Might be a good idea to split the game up into several equally time-framed scenes. Both to help shape your plot & to keep the action moving. SWB |
I laways felt that any and all elements of a game are merely secondary to the actual gameplay. Yes, story and aesthetics ( I lump anything related to non-gameplay mediums, visuals, sounds, music as aesthetics) are important, but the Interactivity are what seperates a game form a movie, book, T.V. show or even a song. In certain genres, Story and Aesthetics can rival or equal, primarily in an RP, Gameplay, but good gameplay should still be the primary and main focus.

My only suggestions are that the story and characters are going to have to be very good, because the gameplay probably handles about the same as Dragon Warrior unless you actually put the work into designing a battle system (which I don't believe is possible with the console version of Rpg Maker, but the pc version had some very neat ones, the best was Final Fantasy: Crystal Wings, someone designed a battle system that, well, you guessed it, looks and plays like in Final Fantasy. The plot was going good, too. They quit doing it a long while ago, though).
I'm also willing to beta test as long as you point me in the right direction for the essential components to do so. *cough* At best I can tell you if I'm having fun. |
Nah, I can't really mess with the fighting system, (Think Lufia, without your character's sprites.) though the development stage has been put on the back-burner, as I'm now looking for an actual computer program, rather than the SNES thing. At any rate, all I have as far as story goes is a very vague and malleable lump. For a long time, I was (and still am) having problems with the statistics in the battles. (The characters do nothing but 9999 damage) And though it's relatively easy to fix, I haven't had time because my roommate has been playing poker online. At any rate, since he's asleep and won't be near the computer for nearly 14 hours, I intend to find a new program and start fresh then.
Oh, also, I was thinking of making a website and putting the (now title-less) game on the site. If anyone could do some web design, it'd be great. Just pm me if you have anything. I intend to get MSN and AOL today as well, so yeah. |
