RP Ideas

If you couldn't guess, this is just a thread to throw roleplaying ideas around. For example, I was just wondering what kinds of RPs people would want to play right now-or if anyone felt like running an RP someone else want.

I myself would be interested in a Fate/Stay Night RP-or perhaps something as easy and simple as the Tri-Stat system.

I also am considering doing a "spinoff" of the last FFRP I did, after talking with Mr. Viewtiful. One where instead of getting caught up in the war the characters just avoid it completely. Or I might run a Tri-Stat game myself.

I'm currently bouncing around the idea of a Mission Impossible RP.

But this forum seems to be going dead. Almost as dead as TopWeb is now.

Well, the reason for that is pretty simple.

Most of us play the same kind of characters, always getting into the same kind of situations and battles (and really...it's usually the latter), and GMs always get into the habit of disappearing, making the RPs that actually are started usually lose their steam. It's not as interesting if you've been signing up for every one, and have always played with the same people.

It's worse if the game has been set up as RPOL as well, since few of us ever checked that site regularly.

I've almost entirely stopped coming here because, quite frankly, most of the RPs suck. Be it the saturday morning cartoon premise, or the participants... Whatever floats your boat I guess. That, and the other stuff Ecurt said. The GMs sticking around and remaining as active as the participants is probably the biggest factor. On the whole, I find stat systems don't work on forums.

Interesting RP ideas -

Usually semi-realistic sci-fi ones interest me the most. A while back it looked like Bob's Archangels would fit that niche. The original Starcraft and the premise of Locusts are also decent (though don't lend to much possibility in the way of plot). In the back of my head I've always considered doing a Pandora's Star RP, but I don't like so directly "copying" stuff.

A nice post-apocolyptic survival horror (ugh, just not zombies), perhaps set in the real world, would be neat. Jericho and/or War of the Worlds anyone?

Fantasy can be all right, but that seems to be the only thing running right now anyway...(Not that I know with any certainty, I'm not checking these forums enough)

PS: What's RPOL?

Hmm, I did have an idea for a group of people trying to make a country out of a collapsed nation in eastern europe.

The only battles in it would be against NPC's and there would be losses as well as victories. Mostly it would be about avoiding battles, getting recognised by the UN and that sort of thing.

RPOL is a roleplaying site that's, well, made for roleplaying, with many features that we don't have in this forum. Best to check out the site itself, or wiki it.

Anyways...I'd probably go for the post-apocolyptic one myself (and yes, no zombies...meh), Azisien.

I've been pondering a John Carter of Mars RP (if you haven't read the books, do so), but I'm too addicted to RaiRO to devote time to it.

Also, note that nearly all the people in this forum also play RaiRO. That could account for a lot of its death.

How about a "freaky creatures from alternate dimension RP", like Half-Life. Say, creatures that are spawned by a child's nightmares?

i was actually thinking about making an rp solely based on character's dreamscapes... kinda like those creepy stories from The Sandman, y'know?

Tarrin 10-09-2006 04:59 PM

Ahem....Whats RaiRo?
