Then explain yourself!

Either I have no idea how to use the search function on these forums, or I am the first to notice something:

The ``but dinosaurs are extinct'' thing from 610 looks like a reference to the Flight of the Amazon Queen. In that game, you run across a gorilla in the jungles of South America, and you make it go away by reminding it that gorillas are in Africa. Its eyes bulge out and it vanishes.

Then you meet it again, disguised as a dinosaur. You tell it that dinosaurs are extinct, and it takes off its costume. Then you tell it that it doesn't exist, and it disappears again.

So what do I win?

FighterFlight 10-18-2006 10:26 PM

Dude? What the heck are you talking about?

Flight of the Amazon Queen came about AFTER episode 610.

Edit: Actually, now I'm a little saddened to think that that hysterical laughter inducing comic wasn't actually a result of its author's personal genius. I've been laughing at an imposters joke. I feel embarrassed.

On the other hand, I think, from the sound of things, Brian is a greater master of the art of setting up the joke. So I believe that the delivery was probably far better considering "Born to Hunt Dinosaurs"

Kurosen 10-18-2006 10:46 PM

Sorry, I've never heard of that game.

PyrosNine 10-18-2006 11:23 PM

The joke itself is kinda a cliche, especially with some creature learning it's not where it's supposed to be, or exist, and then dying or whatnot.

In this one mario comic I read, a Killer Squid was shocked to learn that as a Squid, it could only survive in Salt water, yet it lived in a Fresh water marsh. It mentioned that it had been feeling sickly lately.

Mario tried to remedy the problem with a bag of salt, but it turned out to actually be sugar and the Squid was last seen bobbing in the water lifeless.

Mario's an asshole.

Wikipedia:

Flight of the Amazon Queen (also: FOTAQ) is a graphical point and click adventure game by Interactive Binary Illusions originally released in 1995 for DOS and Amiga and re-released as freeware in 2004 for use with ScummVM

Also, it lists 1995 as its copyright date in the game.

Let's hear what FighterFlight of nuklearpower forums has to say about the subject.

So, who are you going to believe?

You have your sources, I have mine.

Here's a video of the exchange (couldn't figure out how to capture /dev/dsp, so no sound). Brian's already said that he didn't intend to make a reference. So I guess it will have go into the same bin as the Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz stuff.

You know, stuff that works, but no one meant for it to work.

I have a third source:
