Death Note: Live action movie
 

I just saw the preview for this about an hour ago. I'll link to a website if I find one.

Now I haven't personally read it, but I do know people that are obsessed with it. Though I am concearned about the movie since I have never seen a anime/manga live action movie that worked.

It's not a bad manga series, as far as I can tell; I borrowed the first book from the library once. It has an interesting premise. Not sure if it's worth being too obsessed over, tho'--but then, I'm no good at understanding these sorts of obsessions from the outside, as it were...

As for a live-action adaptation, I'm not sure how that would work. For instance, how would they depict the shinigami? Do they have the budget for CGI, or is it just going to be a Power Rangers-esque guy in a big rubber suit?

Personally, I think it looks very good, and I hope they release an official English version at some point.

I've been reading the series as it gets released in English, and it's one of the best stories I've heard in awhile. As long as they don't mess with the story too much, they couldn't have gotten the movie wrong.

Live action movies of animes always turn out like this or this.

The music theme of the Dragon Ball one always gets me.

"MONG WAP...MAGIC!!! *soaring noise* didididididididi hey my face *soaring noise* MAGIC CROU?!"

Ok I saw it (well it was live action, and death note atleast) and well. It didn't suck. Keep in mind I saw it raw and dont read the manga so I only had a vague idea what was happing and who these people were. The shinigami is CGI and rather well done. Not perfect but with current technology I dont think you can get much better.

Remember I saw this on TV. I'm not sure its the movie because the movie isn't in theaters yet. But its possible they release things on TV here first. I dont know

Actually, Death Note just recently became an anime (October 4th). I love the story. From watching the previews a few months ago it looks good. I don't think they are messing with the story too much either. I can't wait until it gets subbed.

I love how they did Ryuk. He looks very awesome in it.

just one thing I dont like about death note. Which I will put into RP terms...because I can.

That is really broken. Reason I never read it is I dont see a point. Its pretty predictable. Oh no someone is getting suspisious of him, well what do you know he just killed that person.

Granted I'm not that big on shoujo.

Wouldn't the defense be then to make sure no one knows your real name? I mean, that's not gonna really work if you don't know about the threat before hand...but at least it's something.

thats just it, by the time someone realizes whats going on he already knows your name. Thats kinda like telling someone hey there is a serial killer and there is only one way to protect yourself. We have absolutely no idea what that one thing is, but hey its I'm sure you will figure it out.

Also, what happens if you change your name? What if you wer orphaned and adopted, what would be your name the original one or your current one? I mean when you get right down to it a name is just a word you answer to.

I just dont see the fun in reading something when you already know how and why he wins. We all know the main character wins but the fun is finding out how or what price he has to pay. I bet I can already tell you how Light succeeds in everything he does, he writes down a name in a book.

Wrong! You obviously haven't been told correctly. I will point out your mistakes.

There is limited range. It is limited to people whose face you know and are thinking when you write it down as to not kill people with the same name.

It is destructible.

There is one person in the series named L who no one knows the name or face of. Everyone just calls him L. He helps the FBI and police and is a genius.

If he knows your face and knows the name given to him and the name you go by it will work.

There are more twists then you give it credit. I suggest you give it a try before completely dismissing it.
