Sony kills Lik-Sang

Clicky.

Ordinarilly, I'd be really shocked at this, but given Sony's recent track record, all I can do is shake my head and sigh.

Fifthfiend 10-24-2006 06:24 PM

Well... that's unreservedly awful.

Kenryoku_Maxis 10-24-2006 07:47 PM

And thus every American and European Anime-junkiee who buys products for shows outside of the normal American Anime market instantaniously boycotts Sony.

As well as most of the people who were buying PSP and DS games online.

And a number of import stores just decided to push 360 and Wii a little more this holiday season.

And a number of....etc. etc.

....Sony, can you do anything else to hurt yourself? Wait...I know they will soon.

Mirai Gen 10-24-2006 08:24 PM

Sony just hates themselves, don't they?

Reminds me of the pineapple controllers.

Oh fuck this, I had fucking orders being shipped. I'm still getting Contact I think it was already in the mail, but Okami, fuck it I'll get my money back and get someone to bring it down from Bali or something, no more non-pirated Sony games for me. No PS3 either.

But this is really fucking bad for me, you know what came out last week over here? MGS3 Subsistence and Kingdom Hearts 2. They came out it in America, what a year ago?

So yeah Sony boycott sounds good.

Mirai Gen 10-24-2006 11:36 PM

Boycott?

Shit, is it even really neccesary at this point?

greed 10-24-2006 11:52 PM

Well I was going to get one. Still will, just second hand console and pirated games in a couple of years, assuming Sony is still afloat then.:yarr:

Vive la Wiivolution! And go 360 as well.

Wow, I just got Tales of the Abyss today, the only game in months able to pry Guitar Hero out of the PS2, and it was good enough to wash out Legendia's taste of mediocrity. It was a game that made me almost love the PS2. And then: Wow, I hate Sony again.

I'm still getting Guitar Hero II, and that's it. God, I hope the good 3rd-party companies start supporting the Wii more.

Deathosaurus Wrecks 10-25-2006 12:24 AM

hahaha, what a bunch of douchebags. way to go Sony. way to defend your trademarks and copyrights from the evil online importers. way to piss off the gaming community and alienate your distributers at the same time.

Mirai Gen 10-25-2006 12:33 AM

Okay, at this point, I'm honestly ready to just not buy a PS3 if only to represent my stance of what Sony's been doing.

You might think, "Yeah, Mirai, but you're a Devil May Cry fanboy."

And you know what? That's just not enough to do it for me anymore. I am so incredibly done with Sony at this point. Fuck them.

They are so mind-fuckingly harsh on stupid shit like this, just to try and boost sales, well I'm going to give them a goddamn piece of my mind about it.

EDIT: Okay, pulling that bus over to the side of the Overreactive Turnpike.

We're caught in the middle of a PR storm, folks. This morning, online retailer Lik-Sang announced they were going out of business due to lawsuits filed by Sony Computer Entertainment claiming it was illegal to be selling Asian PSPs to European consumers. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, however, Sony says Lik-Sang's in full-on, infant-style pout mode and experiencing nothing more than "sour grapes."

"Lik-Sang did not contest this case (i.e. they did not turn up and therefore incurred no legal costs). We have been awarded substantial costs against Lik-Sang which have not been paid," reads the statement. "We would therefore strongly deny that our actions have had anything to do with this website closing."

This isn't the first time Lik-Sang's run into legal trouble before, either. In 2002, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all alleged copyright infringements over the sale of mod chips. None of these legal hurdles seemed to pose a problem for the company, though, as they were still operating as of yesterday.

Additionally, Sony took issue with releasing the names of corporate executives who supposedly purchased Asian PSPs through the retailer. "We would also like to express our surprise at a company releasing personal information about its consumers, as this is contrary to data protection principles around the world." Regardless of Lik-Sang's intent, Sony definitely has a point.
Okay, so let's recap. Lik-sang breached superbad Privacy Policies by trying to slap Sony in the face. Sony shut them down because they were making the cheaper asian Sony equipment and breaking copyright laws.

I'm not sure how to react now.
