Best sidestream RPG ever
What do you guys think the best RPG that didn't get alot of publicity was? My choice would be Earthbound, I don't think it got alot of publicity.

Yeah, Lunar is great. The premise of the story was very cliche, but the story was made very interesting through the excellent writing done for it, the humor put into it, and the exceptionally well developed characters.

Star Ocean: The Second Story.

Wild Arms 3.
No publicity at all, don't get much more sidestream. |
Come to think of it I have another: Legends of Dragoons, or something like that.

Legend of Dragoon is a fun game, I was playing it yesterday.

Earthbound, definitely. Megaman Battle Network too.

Fallout was kind of sidestream, sort of. It was awesomeness itself. |
I don't seem to sound too mean but most of the games you have mentioned either had problems that made them sub-par or did recieve plenty of publicity.
Earthbound... well didn't get the point myself but the game got more than enough publicity in Nintendo Power. Lunar was a good $35-$50 game selling for about $70. Damn special instruction book. Star Ocean: The Second Story - I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. Although the setup was almost too long. Wild Arms 3 had ads going for a while. The problem with the game was its overworld system. But it was small enough to be overlooked in favor of cool puzzles and a good story. Legend of Dragoon got excellent props from the gaming community. I was surprised they could make such a good game. They are working on a sequel the last I heard. Megaman Battle Network had a pretty good battle system. But the kiddy pokemon-like storyline along with puzzles that even after you did them made no sense turned me off from the series. I'll also agree that fallout never got enough press. I would like to add Seiken Densetsu 3 to that list. It was a japanese only sequel to Secret of Mana and had no reason not to be released in America. |
