Some of these have gotten pretty enormous, so we're reinstating a limit of about five lines' worth of standard-size text. There's a little leeway on this but if you're taking up half the screen you can definitely expect to be warned. If you have more than one quote you want to sig you can always use ordinary old quotation marks instead of the [QUOTE] tag and if you really have that much to say then just cut down the font size a bit.

The rules have been updated and this thread'll stay up for a bit so's everyone can get the message. There'll be a few days' grace on this so people can change whatever it is they've got up currently.

Hugs and kisses,

fifthfiend

Thank you for this. But, couldn't the quote tags be disabled entirely in the sigs, like the image tags are? They really don't serve much purpose other than to take up twice as much space as the simple { "this is a quote" - by me } means. They're fine in the post, because it does well to highlight what is being responded to, but they really aren't neccesary in sigs.

I disagree. I see no reason for them to be taken out, and they really don't do any harm if used right.

I mean, it's like taking out the option of using big/different font types. They take up space too, but no one is quibbling about that.

Like BMG says, I don't think in and of themselves boxquotes do all that much harm. It's a fairly standard touchstone of forum conversation so it's not all that big a surprise that people would want to use them, especially if they want to sig something from another forumer. They're not inherently an eyesore the way image-sigs are, and if someone just has one thing they want to box then that's not gonna take up too much room. As long as it stays inside the size limit I think they're fine.

You could do it the way I'm doing it now.

See how much less space that takes up than having two boxes?

Speaking of quote boxes, it bothered me that I couldn't get rid of that huge gap between my signature's quote box and the lines below. Any chance that gap size could be adjusted?

P-Sleazy 11-08-2006 05:26 PM

well, for starters, you pressed enter between the quote and your next line so thats contributing to the gap size, if you remove that enter between your quote and your next line of text, it should remove 1 line of space between the quote and the text.

I present my rebuttal.

This will vastly improve the readability of some discussions. There is nothing more annoying than someone with an obscenely long signature replying to every other post.

I'm PraetorZorak, and I approve this message.

You could try putting the quote at the end of the sig.

It tends to not have the noticeable gap (it's still there, but now it's followed by nothing).

Just curious, is mine an alright size or should I change it?

Also, I support quote boxes, especially if they are done in the way that Skyshot has them done. Since they don't take up too much space, and they are fairly small for the loading times, I don't see why they should be a problem.
