Sony Has Their Own Virtual Console

Near the middle of this interview.

Sure, it's not the whole thing like Nintendo's VC, but PS1 games for 5 bucks a pop? As if the motion sensor wasn't obvious enough.

See, at times like these, when people say, "But Sony really isn't imitating Nintendo," I can simply laugh.

However, all Sony bashing aside, I'm glad to see that someone got the message. Retro is huge buisness. I want to play Valkyrie Profile, damn it, and I don't have the 130 bucks to spare.

You know you could just get the PSP one, right?

ZAKtheGeek 11-10-2006 07:45 PM

If he doesn't already have a PSP, that'll cost plenty more than $130.

What he said.

So, theorizing; I'm guessing, what, Twisted Metal, Tenchu, probably Symphony of the Night, and (Hey!) most Squaresoft RPGs? Sounds like winners to me.

You smell that. It's fear. And it is eminating from Sony's camp.

Just curious, with Square and Konami's remaking and porting binges, you seriously think they'll put them out for $5 on PSP (PS3 is being considered but not yet confirmed last I heard) when they can release an improved port on the DS or PSP for several times as much profit and little extra cost? Same reason we are never going to see FF5 and 6 for $5 on the Wii's VC. Sure maybe Valkryie Profile, but I doubt the A-lists like SOTN, the PS FFs and Vagrant Story are going to see the light of day for that little.
I predict Sony's 2nd party's or affilated series mainly, so Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer and things that couldn't make it as anything but a impulse buy.

Oh get real! You act like this list is just a big stationary pool that you can pull from for a fee. They won't leave it like that - they're not stupid. They are almost assuredly going to make downloadable classics (You know, like, "Greatest Hits?") for release.

If they don't, well, fuck, the PS3's exorbent price isn't the only globally believed stupid move on their part.

Yeah I suppose I was a bit harsh, They probably will include some very good stuff on there, I just think the ones they think they can get away with enhanced ports(Final Fantasy 5/6 Advance anyone?) or full-on remakes will be left behind until said ports aren't profitable which could be a long time, possibly even past the console's lifetime. Until then the $5 price point will be largely for stuff that isn't that great. That said Sony almost certainly won't be stupid enough not to throw in some gems.
Personally I'm almost sure FFT will be on there day one as focused on the harcore market as Sony is.

My main problem and the thing that pissed me off is this,

download them to the PS3, and bounce it to your PSP
The PSP's online right? The PS3 uses a goddamn PSone controller, why the fuck are they forcing you to own both when either alone could work?
