Super Metroid - REDESIGN
Yeah, so this dude's taken Super Metroid and essentially remade the game (hence the name), changing it into an even more unforgiving, "NOW where do I go, and WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SHUT OFF THAT STUPID ALARM THAT KEEPS GOING OFF?!?!", difficult piece of pure awesomeness than Super Metroid and the original were combined. I've been playing it seemingly constantly for the past 3 days, and I still haven't beat it. I'm not bad at the original at all, which shows just how hard it is. It's VERY enjoyable, though. :)
http://drewseph.zophar.net/ On a related note, I think whoever made the maps should try and take over the world. He's so sneaky that he could probably succeed even if he TOLD everyone he was gonna. Edit: Thanks Fifth! |
That's pretty impressive.
FYI, for an embedded link, you want to do [url=http://www.linkylinklink]texttexttext[/url]. Which if done correctly should come out as texttexttext. Alternately just click the 'Insert Link' button above the text-entry box (it's the one with the globe and the chain links) and that'll handle all the heavy lifting for you. For these and more formattingly delicious vBcode markups (including the one I used to get the URL tags to display!) see this page, handily linked from the rules which you should also be sure and thoroughly read. Thanks for the tip and welcome to the forum. |
GREAT! Now if only I could get it to work with a file I don't have!
|
To get it to work you have to use an emulator and the file of the original Super Metroid game. I remember that links to them used to be against the rules, and most likely still are. I don't know if I'd be allowed to link to a patched version of the game (one that you couldn't use to play the original Super Metroid), could a mod give some input on that?
Edit: It didn't take long to find the program and patch it, after all. |
Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this, I've got Lunar Compress, but have never been able to work it.

It's alright. This isn't advocation of emulators over original copies therefore there's no issue of copyright breach and it is unlikely that we will be singled out as sympathizers from the sources* that classify people as such. It is a hack of a game which has been, for lack of a better term, completely remade, ergo we can discuss it here.

OK, here's the patched ROM.
http://www.filespace.org/Magish/ As I said before, you need an emulator to be able to play it. I use Snes9x v1.43 improvement 9, it's here, first link in the first post. It has some extra features compared to the official version, and if you're not trusting, they even have a link to the source a little further in the first post. Note that the author says that ZSNES won't work with it, I'm not sure if they've fixed that bug in the latest version or not. I also suggest putting the game in its own folder, as each savestate has its own file in the same location, and it can get cluttered quickly. Edit: Just to clarify, I did a quick search of the forums, and it appears that it's OK to link to emulators, which is why I did so. |
Wow this is frickin sweet, they really put a lot of effort into this, the trick pirates are a nasty surprise, didn't catch on that the power beam wasn't working for a while.
And thanks Magish for the help and putting this up. You know if this is okay I know a good Yoshi's Island hack I could hunt down. |
You'd do yourselves some good by checking out this thread on hacked ROMs over at The Gamer's Quarter.
