Purify The Institution of Marriage!?!?!?!?!

Recently I heard George W. Bush wants to ban homosexual marriage, that seems to me an infringement of constitutional rights what do you guys think?

This isn't that new of news.

However old the news may be, the debate still stands. I'm with him on this one. Civil unions=yes, marriage=no.

I don't see any reason why our government should have the right to prevent anyone from the pursuit of happiness as long as its not infringing on the rights of others. No one should force their moral standpoints on others in issues that have to do with personal happiness.

No one is going to be able to change anyone else's opinion if its strong enough, nor should they because a little variety is good in society, but sometimes this debate gets old.

Marriage as a government institution makes no sense.

Okay, Let's say Gay Marriage is allowed. That doesn't make sense, because straight in the bible it says "Marriage is between a dude and dudette", right? Well, the bible doesn't truly apply to government, now does it? I say it ISN'T allowed, then that tramples on religious freedom.

It simply doesn't make sense. Marriage is a purely religious ritual. If the government wishes to keep tabs, they should stay away from the word 'marriage' altogether, hetero or homo-sexual. You get married by a priest. You get a union from a judge. Both orientations should have the same rights.

But I'm pretty sure this was already done. Like, a few times.

I say what the hell. The reason government keeps tabs on marraige is because of how it affects you tax wise and legal wise, it does make a difference. Civil unions don't have all the perks that marriage does, so it actually is a somewhat important issue. Let the peeps be married, I'm all for it.

Whether or not two people can get married should be up to them and their religious leader of choice. The government should have one of two choices: A: act strictly as a record keeper of marriages without legislating who can or can't have one, or B: grant civil unions or some kind of contract or license to partners, but don't call it marriage.
But, that's just my opinion. Personally, I couldn't care less if two guys want to get married - that many fewer men competing for the ladies.

On a side note, gay guys wouldn't be "competing for the ladies" whether they are married or not.

i dont understand why, in the united state the home of the free, the government is trying to take away as many civil liberties and frredoms as possible

btw, its just a stepping stone on the path to ethnic cleansing, which is bad
