mp3 player or Nintendo DS Lite?

Well, my family just got really lucky. We just got a check for three thousand dollars from the share of the money off my grandmas estate. So, now i have a very difficult decision to make. Too difficult in fact, so i'm here asking for your opinion.

if you had a choice, would you get a 30GB mp3 player or a Nintendo DS Lite with any three games you want?

The DS.

Why? You can get a cheap CD/MP3 player, and a few CD-RWs and have all the mp3s you really need. It's bigger in size, and not as much storage space, yes, but it's cheaper, and you don't really need 30 Gigs of mp3s on a protable device.

The DS, however, is the gift that keeps giving. Giving fun and entertainment.

true, 30gbs might seem excessive. However, i plan to make the mp3 player (when i get one) to have all my music for the next five years, at least. I plan to download the discographies of alot of bands.

Go for the DS, the reasons are as follows

FF III
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Yoshi's Island DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Mario Kart DS

Plus GBA Games

CD-RW will hold about 11 - 12 hours of 128 kpbs mp3s, and they don't take long to clean/reburn, so if you have a couple of those on you, with a couple of playlists worked out in advance. There really is no need for the mp3 player, which isn't worth it that much unless you were planning on using it as a portable music harddrive, which I really wouldn't recommend storing your entire music collection solely on it. That is just asking for catastrophy.

Just giving a thrifty alternative so you can get the DS.

that's exactly why i want a huge mp3 player. Right now, the only computer i have has a full hard drive space of 18GBs and its a family computer. I have 5GBs of music, leaving only 5.5GBs of free space on my hard drive (the other space is used up by videos/documents/games).

This 30Gb mp3 player will allow me to download my music without worrying "oh, do i have enough space for this?" i wont have to worry, you see?

and thanks for the help, i really appreciate it. :)

You can get a new harddrive for rather cheap at, say Tiger Direct, or a multitude of other places, and it'd be quite a lot more useful than an mp3 player I daresay.

dposse 11-27-2006 05:59 PM

How? The harddrive will get used up very quickly, more quickly than a mp3 player with 30gbs of space.

Well..
Seeing as how you will most likely get a hell of a lot more play out of the DS Lite, I would say go for that.
Especially since you can turn it into a MP3 player quite easly

DS, hands down. You can make anything an mp3 player. And all the mainstream players aren't true mp3 players. iPods play their own file associations and some others have you convert your songs to mpeg format.

What I mean by "you can make anything an mp3 player" is that all small electronics nowadays have mp3 features included already, along with all of their standard equipment. Most new palms and pocket pc's have enough room for a couple hundred songs and a headphone jack. New cell phones are also coming out with mp3 compatibility.

I say buy the DS and ask for a player for Christmas if you really want one.
