Phony People
 

I've heard this phrase thrown around a bunch. I wonder...what does it mean?

It speaks of people who are, in fact, phony.

Many people behave the way they feel they are supposed to behave, rather than how they feel is right. A few are just, really bad and reeeeeally obvious about it, often cloyingly so. Those are the phony people.

Either that, or doppelgangers.

It's used to describe people who have read "Catcher in the Rye" too much.

Phony people are cybernetic clones sent back from the future through anchored wormholes our scientists are creating in labs right now... they replace their originals and destroy them, thus taking over their lives.

Either that or they're, like everyone else has said, just people that don't act like themselves in the hopes to get ahead.

So...um...they go with the crappy trends that sweep the nation?

I'll second that one! Really, its just someone who is obviously doing things that they dont want to do and trying to make others believe that they do want to do them. Never really bothered me much, imo people can be whoever they chose to be even if it isnt themselves.
