Poor, misguided me.
Hello all, sorry for my recent disappearance from the forums, I had to go to a hospital (mental, that is.) Anyways, I'm back and quite sane, thank you very much. Anyways, back to the main topic.
Four year. That's how long I waited for FFX1. I planned, I saved money, I calculated. So then, it comes out, and I buy it. But THEN I find out my debit card won't work for some reason (probably because I'm using a Canadian bank, Scotia Bank. As in Nova Scotia). So, now I'm stuck with a game that I can't use. I'm going to try and find someplace to get credit, most likely EB or BB. So, Ofi needs your help. I need to figure out what I'm going to get to replace the hole in my soul! (Scrath that, hole in my wallet). I just borrowed Neverwinter Nights from my friend, and I LOVE it. I was thinking along the lines of Hordes of the Underdark or the new War of the Ring game. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. Oh, and I might want to try Ragnarok Online too. Is that free? Is there an online fee? I know it's an online RPG, so now I'm paranoid. Anyways, toodles. |
Hey Ofi, what happened that you needed to be hospitalized?
Anyway, back on topic, I would recommend getting the Dungeon Siege expansion pack. Even if you don't have the original, the expansion comes with it, and I just got it (Without having gotten the first before) and have been loving it so far. I don't play it, but Ragnarok is free to download, but pay-to-play. I don't play any pay-to-play games, so I won't recommend any, but Gunbound is fun and free, and quite addictive, although I broke my habit a while back and haven't played it in over a month since I sort of got tired of how long it took to get any good avatar gear. Another good one I'm playing for free is Neveron, but just as a warning, it isn't newbie friendly, and it is slooooooow, think weeks and months, not minutes and hours... Other games I'm playing right now and loving are Freelancer (An oldie but goodie I picked up recently on the cheap. Good if you like space games, and the multiplayer still lives even though it's old.), Aliens vs. Predator 2 Gold Edition (Another oldie but goodie, good if you like actions games, and it still has a small but living multiplayer element that is fun), and in the future, I would keep my eye on Soldner for action, and Spell something (can't remember second part) that looks to be a good RTS in a fantasy setting. And on War of the Rings, it has gotten average review (PCGamer gave it a 70 something score), and I haven't played it yet, but it comes from the company that made Battle Realms and I think that game is awsome, so if you have played Battle Realms, you may want to look into it. |
Ah, anxiety stuff. Panic attacks. If you want the whole shebang, simply PM me.
Ragnarok is pay-to-play? There goes that! ^_^ I heard War of the Ring is basically just build and attack, but it might be a nice stress releiver from Warcraft 3. Which basically is a 1337 micro fest. I might try Dungeon Seige, I've never played it before. What's it like? |
Um, it's like Diablo, but more action based (Tough to imagine...). You can control up to eight warriors (As in physically control them and tell them what to do), and you basically just go along and kill everything in you path. You build you skills by using items, so if you use a lot of melee weapons and heavy armor, your strength and melee skill will rise, or if you use lots of magic, your intelligence and magic skills (Combat and Nature) wil rise. So far it's a lot of fun, and if you beat the main game, you can go online and downloads mods and new maps to play on, and you can import your single player character into multiplayer to bust up monsters online ad play on totally new maps you can't play solo.

Dungeon Siege, i dono, i should have liked that more. I just lost intrest with it. my roommate had the original, and i picked up the expansion pack over the holidays. I played untill you got to that city in the jungle, but then i simply lost intrest in it. which is odd, because i played diablo like my life depended on it.
anyway. are you looking for specificaly online RPGs, or are you looking for other types of online games? theres quite a few FPSs out now that dont charge for online play, and are pretty fun. |
Well, if you want a stress reliever, I would try the .hack games. They are great stress relievers. They have some funny stuff in em, they are hard while not being too hard, and they aren't horribly complicated.
Basically, it's supposed to simulate an RPG, so your party members actually talk like normal people to some degree. Also, though you can have a party of up to 3 people at a time, You only control the main character, Kite. To control the other characters you give generic commands such as "use skills" "use magic" "dont use any skills" "heal each other when available" or "buff everyone in the party if you can". You can also designate specific targets for your party members to attack, and you can specify wht skill to have them use. You dont actually control their movement though, and mostly you dont have to use the really specific command. If you fight reasonably well, you can usually get through most non-boss fight by just triggering the enemies to spawn, and commanding your party to use skills. The game is a little short, but it comes in four parts, and is pretty long altogether. Plus, there are TONS of sidequests you can do if your tired of the main quests. Though most of these are not in the 1st game, these minigames include: Goblin tag(you have to chase down a fast running goblin and beat it) Grunty breeding(by collecting different foods in the dungeons and fields, you can feed it to a baby grunty in most towns and raise it into various kinds of adult grunties) Grunty Flag Racing(once you have all 3 adult grunties that can be raised in a town, you can do the "flag race" for that town. You can pick to ride any one of the grunties you have in that town, then you basically run an obstacle course, trying to collect 3 flags in the town as fast as possible. It can be hard, and one in particular can be kind of annoying, but mostly its pretty fun) Grunty riding(If you have an adult grunty on the server you are playing on, you can use the key item "grunty flute" to call it in a field and ride around, safe from enemies) Secret characters(through storyline quests and a good amount of sidequests, you can get somewhere around 10 secret characters of various kinds to join you) E-Mails(if you spend time with them occasionally, or give them cool items, your party members will start to like you more and will send you e-mails. You can answer the E-mails, and they might continue responding back. Some of them are quite funny) Secret dungeons(in each game there is one secret dungeon you get to enter once you beat the last boss of that game. You can steal really cool items from these bosses, and some of the dungeons look awesome, so they can be kinda fun) Trading(the npcs in town will always have items to trade. If you have other items, you can trade with them for some other items. You can trade maybe one item of equal value, or several of lesser value. Using this, you can get quite interesting and powerful items very early on if you diligently save items for trading). The game is pretty fun, and its somewhat Diablo-esque with its simple "go to dungeon kill monsters, get to end, kill boss" mentality. The minigames add a bit of replay value, the story is very nice, and each one comes with a corresponding part of a 4-piece DVD series that explains whats going on outside the game. I would strongly recommend it, the games are all out now, and they are decently cheap if you go to a games store or something(1:infection is 20 bucks, 2:mutation is 30, 3:outbreak is 30, and 4:quarantine is 40 atm, but those prices are sure to drop, as quarantine just came out.) I've never really been an FPS person myself, especially on computer. If I actually play a FPS, I'd rather do it on a console. Also, I'm not SPECIFICALLY looking for an online RPG, just...something that can hold my interest for a very long time. That's why I was thinking Neverwinter Nights; not only are the campaigns huge, but people are constantly making their own campaigns, which adds to the replay value. I recently bought Fire Emblem, so that's taking up a good chunk of my time. I'm basically looking for a game that is, well, excellent. FFX1 constantly gets great reviews, and I would like to get something worthwhile by trading it in. Thanks for the responses so far guys, keep em coming!

On War3, I'm more of the open map sort, although Pyrimid Escape is one of the hardest, but most fun, maps in recent memory. I only play custom maps on War3 multi actually, those are great to play becuase of the variety.

Sigh....yay.....phear my "posts are always ignored"-ness......ness......ness...........
ness....... Anyhow, back on the subject, I just got outbreak, and it is MUCH improved over part 2. It includes TONS more sidequests, including several meetings with images of characters from the series, 2 kickass new characters, 4 hidden and pretty nasty dungeons full of Data Bugs, a handful of plot twists, entire new enemy TYPES, some truly brutal bosses(the last boss, phase 5-gorre, the machinator, is truly amazing in it's difficulty, and the fight with the first major boss, phase 4-fidchell, the Prophet, is fun as hell just with it's pure coolness.) There are several actual cameos with characters from the series(you bump into bear for example), the monsters can be hella hard if you don't level up appropriately, there are 5 new and even more difficult goblin tag events, a new bonus dungeon after you win the game, several inter-character events that are really nice touches, and libraries of new spells to find. The story really starts to heat up, too, and theres some really nice foreshadowing in this one. All in all, it's a MUST BUY if you have 1 and 2, and practically a reason just to get the things. |
