Studying vs Lurking in NPF
So I have my Microeconimics final in about 15 hours or so and I am about 6 chapters behind in my reading and have to review all of my junk from the beginning of the semester to have a chance at passing this class (master's level FTW:sweatdrop ). What am I doing about it? Am I franticly reading and reviewing notes? Heck no!! I'm sitting here with notes and book in front of me and waiting for someone to post in a thread I'm watching. Stupid? Yes, yes it is but I canot draw myself away. Anyone else run into this problem with addictions to NPFing?

Yes, even when there are no new posts to read. Hell, especially when there are no new posts to read! F5... F5... F5...

I'd be happy to discuss the Pareto optimal points of a given edgeworth-box and endowment point, and I would be happy to discuss the pitfalls of rate of return monopoly regulation. However, as an economics student, you should realize that the oportunity cost of sitting around so that you can make a speedy reply instead of studying is very high.
What will maximize your utility? A lower exam score and a forum post, or a higher exam score and no forum post? Put the fundamental laws of economics to the test and study! |
But I can't!! I try but all that happens is I press F5 again and again and again. Damn you Brian, I blame my exam score on you!!

Lurk for 1, 2, hell maybe even 3 hours on the forums, and then turn it off. That's right, slowly take a hold of your mouse, move it over the X button in the corner, and click. Now give yourself a minute to breathe, and then get up move somewhere else in the room, and work.

It appears the subliminal hypno-patterns in the forum interface are operating as planned.
Excellent. |
Hell, I usually have the NPF forums open in two tabs, main forums, then the RaiRO forums, up while at work.
Handly for breaks, where I can just make a quick refresh-scan-post then get back to work. |
It's the same thing that happens to people who are obsessed with text messaging. People like to keep track of new info and things happening, so they keep checking constantly, just in case.
People hate missing things! |
Balance is important. You can't just drive yourself to study study study if you don't like the smell of fried brain. If you're reading something long and boring, try closing your eyes for a moment every few minutes, or listen to music with no lyrics. Music can help with math too, but a better idea there is to have a snack nearby - something with protein, like peanut butter or a ham sandwich you can munch on while you work.
Take it from a chronic procrastinator: Blowing stuff off sucks balls in the end. |
I'm a fellow procrastinator too. I support your endeavor to procrastinate as a fellow procrastinator. And I would like to take this time and give you my precious advice; study the bold words. Get through alot of stuff faster and you get to go over the key words. Procrastination + Bold Words Review = Passing Letter Grade. Not idyllic for straight A students.
