Avatar's Finale Draws In Viewers
According to numerous sources the Avatar finale, which aired on December 1st at 8pm EST, drew in a total of over 4 million viewers.
This actually beats out some of the "Prime Time" Television shows that aired on the same day. Will this have any sort of impact on animation? Will people start to realize that it's more than just a kids show? Will pickles invade our dreams? And in case people are wondering, Spongebob Square Pants continually pulls in millions of viewers and lands in the top ten of the Nielson rating. Nickelodeon seems to have a pretty dynamite lineup, as I'm also seeing Fairly OddParents up in the top ten of the week. |
I havent watched Avatar yet, but I do hope that it will get the idea out there that animation/anime is more than it used to be. I remember going to see Mononoke Hime in theaters here in the US and parents being pissed about the violence in it. Hello, the movie was rated PG-13 for a reason. So I hope it does help people realize that animation is getting to be for more that just kids.

Simpson's have been around for over a decade, so has SouthPark, so people really can't use that saying. Anyways, I too think Avatar is a great show, it manages to stay actiony without using egregious (I totally spelled that right) violence, and also appeals to a demograph far broader than what it was originally aimed at. Plus its funny, that helps too.

Thread title changed because it amuses me to do so.
PS: Is there some compelling reason why this couldn't be merged with the Avatar thread down at the bottom of the page? |

How many licks?... OVER NINE THOUSAND!
Anyway, Avatar does seem like a cool show. I'll probably give it a shot and watch a few episodes, even though it seems kinda odd that the protagonist has a freakin' blue arrow on his forehead (probably a plot device, but meh..) |

The blue arrow tattoos are what airbenders are given upon becoming an "Airbender Master". |
Avatar to me seems to be one of the only decent nicktoons on the air. I belive if it was stretched out like Inuyasha or, Pokemon, just because of popularity it would become lame. It would probably resort to what I call the GX strategy, of creating a spinoff show to continue on the series, yet is nothing compared to the original.
