My parents are buying my brother a DS for christmas and I am supposed to purchase some games. What the heck should I get? I've also read that there are software cracks that allow for MP3 player capabilities and a couple other cool things. So fill me in, you NPF people whose opinions I will trust in my purchases/downloads.

I'd recommend form the newer stuff, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS, Final Fantasy 3 if he likes old school or hard RPGs.

From the older Stuff: Castlevania DoS, Kirby's Canvas Curse, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney(assuming you can find it), New Super Mario Bros, Contact, Mario Kart DS, Mario and Luigi PiT, Advance Wars DS. There's a lot more, but those are my favourites from what I own, have played or are just sure about through fanboyism(Castlevania PoR and Yoshi's Island DS).

I can recommend "Advance Wars: Dual Strike" and "Mario Kart DS".

I'm planning in getting "Star Fox Command" and possibly "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" this Christmas.

As of the hacks, I'm not sure it's safe to post this, and I'm also not very informed about it. I'll PM you what I found if that helps though?

The hacks aren't as reliable and are way way too costly. Trust me - just use it for gaming. If you want an MP3 player, he needs a PSP.

Crucial for a DS: Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Portrait of Ruin if you feel the urge).

Decent to good games: Metroid Prime Hunters, Mega Man ZX, Star Fox Command, and Super Mario 64 DS if he doesn't already have it.

All these titles and not a single mention of Trauma Center?! I mean come on; it was the DS title that had the most innovative use of the touch screen! Though it is hard to find (and extremely hard to beat).

Also I agree with all the other posts suggesting Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Mario Kart DS. You definitely cannot go wrong with these two. AWDS sucked up soul for about 8 months and Mario Kart DS is the best WiFi title in my opinion.

Mega Man ZX is ass.

I mean it would've been okay, if they'd just named it Mega Man okay there's like, five fuckin' minutes of X, and from there on out, pretty much one hundred percent Z, except instead of Mega Man or somebody you actually give a shit about, some fuckin' retarded delivery boy Mary Sue.

I guess that might not have fit too good on the box, though.

Also, Starfox Command would be totally sweet if it didn't get all up on my last goddamn nerve.

Hypothetically speaking one of those cool things might be you can buy a card and reader deal that'll let you download game ROMs for play on your DS, I mean you know mabye I suppose, not that I know anything about that.

Actually I don't know anything about that, cause it looked complicated and I'm lazy and inept. But, something you could NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES look into BECAUSE DOWNLOADING ROMS IS WRONG.

Hey, to be fair, they did put the Z before the X.

It'd be a damn awesome game if the map wasn't the main villain of the game, but he took no damage from your weapons. I swear, if Capcom would just make another Mega Man X game for the DS, I'd die happy.

About Star Fox Command, well, it'd be better if it was more like Star Fox 64. In fact, most games would be better if they were more like Star Fox 64. But my point is I hated the mission-based game. It needed to be "Get From Corneria To Venom Just Like Good Old Times."

It's not all that complicated, it just involves buying like 200+ bucks in equipment, hacking your DS, voiding the warranty, and at least 50 bucks in cartridges. If you really really want to do that, (And hey, don't get me wrong, playing Mega Man X, Super Metroid, and Chrono Trigger portable sounds pretty slick to me), you should just get a PSP, because the cartridges and equipment practically come with the game.

Metroid Prime Hunters and Star Fox Command take a bit of a learning curve, but it's one of the best uses of the stylus for the DS.

EDIT: I shouldn't be so defensive about games I like. Hm.

Let's just say that thing that I was hypothetically talking about as something I would never do was less about not-downloading MMX and Super Metroid and more about not-downloading Mario Hoops 3 on 3 and Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow.

I don't suppose you know how to gain the ability to use X throughout the whole game (making it ridiculously easy)...?

Elite Beat Agents. Possibly the greatest music game ever, next to possibly Guitar Hero but Ive never played those. If he likes manga, Find him Jump All Stars or Jump Ultimate Stars. The latter being more favorable since its online and has the option of using villains. And while you're importing....be sure to get "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!!!" Its the original version of EBA, set to the tune of Jap songs. In a nutshell...get him EBA and Ouendan, the greatest DS games around!
