Final Fantasy VIII

I wonder what everybody's grudge with FFVIII. In my opinion I t was the best one for PSX. I Like the card game also how you can make items out of them and the in depth rules. I also like the junction system and how anybody can learn anything. So wondering what everyone else's grudge was.

I dunno, It's not that I didn't like VIII, it's just that I liked VII and IX a lot better. It's all a matter of taste.

Most people did not like the romantic story.

Most people think Squall is whiney.

Most people hated the Draw system for magic (Which sucked)

Well, I can't speak for everybody, but I didn't like it for the money system, the junction system, the GF system, the fact that all the charecters looked alike, that levels didn't mean anything, and the story line is pretty corney.

But it's still a decent game.

Gee....I played a bit of it, and all I kept thinking was how Square went downhill from VII. Actually, Square went downhill from VI. Man, I miss making my own job classes and stuff, thank god for tactics

FFVIII was fine. FFIX was just much, much better. I found FFVIII's world just so drab, so mechanical. Didn't have any depth to it. I think that's a shame, I really do.

I didn't like the junction system, the magic "draw" system, the lack of weapons, the love theme, and how there was basically no point of leveling up. That's basically the whole game right there. I liked FFIX way better, who can resist a cute yet all-powerful BM?

I think it was the best from PSX. Its also, for me, in battle with VI for best FF in all actuality. I don't quite know where the anamosity for it comes from, except one source. The thousands upon thousands of FFVII fans who either think every FF game isn't as good as it or hate that its different from it. FFVIII has the really bad luck of being done rght after FFVII. I think it was ingenious because FFVIII was one of the most unique FF games aside from maybe X. But its been shown that alot of the time, being original can be bad. ::cough:: Nintendo! ::gasp::

I don't like FFVIII because of the draw and leveling systems. Your characters' natural stats are totally useless... thus your characters themselves are totally useless. They just suck. If you level up, things are actually harder for you. That's idiotic.

Then you have the draw system for magic... you cast a spell and you lose a stat. Who ever used spells in that game other than using the draw command? Seriously. I don't even know what ultima looks like, despite having 100 of them on a few people. Why? Because I didn't want to fuck up stats and have to spend time restocking them to fix the stats. That was asinine.

The story was ok... and I didn't really mind the love thing, or Squall being an asshole... It's just that the only reason to pick a character was their limit breaks, and then they get weaker as you level them, AND you can't use magic. I didn't particularily like the materia system on FFVII either, for the same reason I don't like the GF system in FFVIII.

That's just me though.

I wouldn't say that I disliked the leveling system, but I did find that I didn't use much magic because of losing stats, which made it quite odd and not particularly appealing. What really turned me off from the game was,
1. the story didn't really draw me into it, and especially towards the end it was like "oh and now there are these time-travelling witches trying to take over the world, mha-ha-ha"
2. The last dungeon, was sooo much more difficult (at least for me) than the rest of the game that, combined with my lack of interest from 1, makes 8 the only FF (besides X-2 which I haven't played) that I haven't finished.
