FF RP Discussion #5

Because the old one is already well over 100 posts, and there's still plenty to discuss.

Ciaran, would you object to a chain vs rapier duel? Only catch - Dante will be using his Rending Chain, so Ciaran's dodging skills better be up to notch. Either that, or I'll control Ciaran and make him look good.

What do you think?

Krylo 02-04-2004 03:36 AM

Hmm... That could be interesting. You go ahead and control him and make him look good. It'll take forever and a day otherwise, and I tend to only be concious at the same time as you about enough to actually be around for two of your posts per day.

Ciaran is acrobatic... and quick. He's not strong physically, but he's incredibly trained in the art of fencing. He may actually be able to partially parry the thing from time to time as well.

Dante 02-04-2004 03:41 AM

Not much chance of that. The Rending Chain is essentially an Earth Lance in physical form. Hits from that thing are like focused explosive blasts. Should any idiot actually get it wrapped around him...

But I know what you mean. Ciaran actually has a good chance of taking Dante in physical combat, this Dante, at least. Since in fencing, the emphasis is on lightning quick lunges while simultaneously avoiding hits, Ciaran's fighting style is uniquely suited to fighting Dante, better than conventional slugging like Aragorn (block his hit, drop him with yours).

Dante here is pure power and not much flexibility. The mental programming is always to fight in a straight line, while Ciaran's methods probably involve much circle-strafing.

I'll try to put up as many posts as I can... though finishign Dante's involvement in Preos (is that the capital's name?) will require at least 2 10k posts...

Krylo 02-04-2004 03:44 AM

Yip, Preos... and by parry I didn't mean actually take the hit with the sword and stop it... I mean more like, scrape past it with the sword and cause the chain to slow down or move just a little bit and making it easier for him to dodge. Although I'm not sure if even that would work.

For actual dodging... if you've ever seen Yu Yu Hakusho... and you've seen Kurama. Like that, only with the acrobatics only happening when unavoidable. He doesn't dodge so much from sheer speed, but flexibility and ability to anticipate attacks.

Edit: that one sentence had the word possible where it really shouldn't have been.

Dante 02-04-2004 03:50 AM

I think i get it... like a spider on six legs, ready to mvoe in any direction and two legs ready to strike at any time... Hmm... it will be fun contrasting the two.

Krylo 02-04-2004 03:55 AM

Yip... that's pretty much it.

Normally he's also very calm and taunting to opponents. He'd probably be like that with Dante until Dante proved to Ciaran that he's not one to be toyed with.

Dante 02-04-2004 04:10 AM

WIll Ren be around? Should she be involved?

Krylo 02-04-2004 04:32 AM

Hmm... I don't think she really has to be involved. In all honesty, knowing her character, she'd probably only care about Ciaran getting killed because she hasn't convinced him to make her empress... She'd probably be around... but if she interfered with the combat it wouldn't be good for Dante... with his hands already full with Ciaran...

Hmmm... how about... Dante blasts the doors open... Ciaran turns on the antimagic and orders the guards he gathered to attack, Dante kills them with the channeler's whip, Ren moves to attack with Ciaran, but Ciaran stops her because "This fight isn't fitting of her style"

Dante 02-04-2004 06:03 AM

Heh... cool. Yes. Dante w/o magic + 2 very hostile masters swordspeople = dead mage.
