Attention Spammers!

Lately there's been a lot of spamming going on around here, as well as complaints that there aren't any places here to spam, in spite of the fact that a handful of you seem bent on doing it anyway.

Well, boys and girls, the good fairy Mashirosen is here to grant your wish -- here's a golden ticket to a magical candyland called Gaia Online, where not only do they not care if you spam, they reward you for it. Quadruple-post roleplay in a dubs-versus-dubs discussion while calling another poster a fukin fagit and claiming that Mountain Dew made you do it -- and watch the gold roll in! The good fairy Mashirosen does not lie! The sun shines every day and the streets are paved with gumdrops and lollipops in the fantastical tomorrowland known as Gaia Online, and all you have to do is follow the yellow brick link to happiness. Go!

Hamelin 02-04-2004 05:52 PM

If you're in to that kinda thing, of course.

Just don't bring it back here again... please.

Forever Zero 02-04-2004 06:22 PM

What the... I like to spam occasionally, but a place that rewards it? That seems a little odd...

Stover 02-04-2004 06:30 PM

I think the rewards thing was a bit of exaggeration.

Krylo 02-04-2004 07:26 PM

No it's not. They reward you for posting period. Doesn't matter what it is, you get gold, that you can use to buy things for your avatar.

The good fairy didn't lie...

Stover 02-04-2004 07:27 PM

Oh.

Forever Zero 02-04-2004 07:28 PM

Actually seems like an interesting idea now that I've looked at it, and I signed up. Look for "Forever_Zero" if you go there (Since someone took the version without the _ in it...)

Atronflame 02-04-2004 09:24 PM

Me and Krylo are already here, as is RaiRai and a few other members. >_>

redhead546 02-04-2004 09:33 PM

Why make a forum that encourages spamming??? I may get slightly off topic occasionally, but I hate it when people makes posts with nothing but "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH" and "BUMP" for no reason at all.

Kenryoku_Maxis 02-04-2004 10:10 PM

Because the people might get money from advertisers and maybe they're just weird.

Mike McC 02-04-2004 10:14 PM

Mashirosen, that seriously was the best post ever. I laughed my ass off when I read it. Bravo.

Anyway, back on track, I was once in Gaia, because, you know, several other forum members went on there. But I soon lost intrest because it was all aboutr the post whoring. Sure, there were serious discussions, occasionally, but it was all about the post count, getting the gold, buying that one thing to make your avatar look groovy. I lost interest after a couple of weeks.

They even have a forum SPECIFICALLY for spamming the crazy, nonsensical shit that so many want to post lately, and they still give you gold from it. Isn't that just grand?

synkr0nized 02-05-2004 12:16 AM

There's been spam here? Could have fooled me. This is one of the "tightest" ships I've seen.

But, I have come to expect this sort of thing from Mashirosen.

Mike McC 02-05-2004 06:56 AM

synk, Mash is talking about stuff like this: http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=1725

and like this: http://www.nuklearforums.com/showpo...91&postcount=1

Flarecobra 02-05-2004 07:09 AM

I looked around that, then ran right back here. I for one am happy that this place is run as is, with spam kept pretty much controlled. I don't really see the relevenince to a just-spam thread here. It'd be like serving beer in a crystal glass or something along those lines.

Trev-MUN Hates AOL 02-05-2004 07:34 AM

Yeah, compared to other places (including a board I'm running), this place sure does have armored duct tape wrapped around them cans of spam.

Though there was something I noticed that I wanna point out... I used to be a Gaian, and I dunno if it's still like this, but check this -

The quicker you post, the less gold you get. Kind of like a combo buffer in a fighting game - the more hits you string the less damage you do until you're doing pixels of damage to their lifebar.

I'd be like - first post, ten gold. Second, five. Third, two. Fourth, one. Another peice of gold after 10 posts, then 100, then 1000. If you waited an hour or two though, you could post again and get ten more gold.

*shrug*

'Course, I don't think many people noticed it because there'd be people posting in every post from the very start of Gaia to the latest threads with three words: "i need gold"

On top of that, you seem to get gold doing just about anything on the site, so eh - merely browsing the site gets you gold. Whataboutthat? D:

... Okay, I know I've missed the point and landed in the trees and bushes and high grass outside the strip. Figured I'd point that out though.

dragonglove 02-05-2004 05:11 PM

I was one of the advocates for a spam thread here. I understand its not going to happen, but I'm still undecided on whether it would work or not. Spam on Gaia is really dumb. Most of the people there have no sense of comedy, which I believe should be the purpose of spam. Gaia is however cool in that you can collect items to make yourself look better. The problem is, as of right now there is no other good way to make gold than post. I think they are adding other non-forum ways of making gold though. We should create a guild (in Gaia) of all those that are members here and there. What do you think?

Look what you've done Mashirosen. You've created a thread for mostly spam right here. I'm sorry.

Forever Zero 02-05-2004 05:13 PM

That's an irony no one expected.

Anyway, I just joined Gaia and am still learning the ropes, but I would join it.

Mashirosen 02-05-2004 05:28 PM

How is this thread spam if you're discussing the topic at hand?

Synkronized, if you have a problem with me, kindly address your comments to me directly.

Krylo 02-05-2004 06:06 PM

Oh, also... to the people going to Gaia... don't wear flame clothes. It's kind of like putting a big sign on your face that says, "Hello, I'm a total newb. Please flame me generously." It seems unfair to do that because of what you wear... but a bunch of REALLY stupid newbs all wear flame clothes and ruin it for everybody. Not that you should actually want to wear them anyway... they look kinda stupid.

Atronflame 02-05-2004 07:20 PM

Also... dont make a really stupid first post. Make sure you read up on the FAQ's and rules before going on there and making an ass of yourself. Because you WILL get flamed. And we dont want that.

IHateMakingNames 02-05-2004 07:54 PM

Hm... Made a name there, but I doubt I will ever be posting there. Everything looks like spam, can't even find a serious post yet...

At least when I spam (Which I rarely do), it is tasteful...

Krylo 02-05-2004 07:58 PM

Try Extended Discussion if you want serious posts.

General Discussion if you want half-way tasteful things.

And Chatterbox if you want nothing but spam. Including such great threads as "[Poll] Are you horney!?"

Forever Zero 02-05-2004 08:06 PM

There is tons and tons (and tons...) of spam everywhere, but if you look you can find serious discussions in the forums. I have to admit though, it is different from any forum I've been in so far. It just feels... wrong to be posting and polling just so you can make money and upgrade your avatar, but thats the way it goes...

Since making characters based on your avatar is popular however, I may hold off on RPing until I don't look like a hobo anymore...

Actually, I am suddenly struck with the idea of "The Hobo Avenger"...

IHateMakingNames 02-05-2004 08:06 PM

Even there seems spammy...

"Why are there no slutty clothes for guys in Gaia"

"Does it make sense" (Is mostly one person going "Bump")

I feel so smart after looking through there...

Krylo 02-05-2004 08:25 PM

It IS good for your ego.

And yah, everywhere is pretty spammy... I like the bestiality discussion currently. Mostly just because it's pretty funny from time to time.

(in reference to dolphinsex.org) "Mmmm... That gets me all hot and bothered."

Mr. Wind-Up Bird 02-05-2004 09:24 PM

If you want to spam, come to the bad-candy.com message boards. We're getting restless and need some internet retards to pick on.

While I may not agree with the way in which you close threads or warn users and so forth in posts, it's plain to see that you are doing this community a service. Obviously, Brian or whomever else was in charge when you became a Mod can trust you, as can those of us as members of the community then and now. I hardly desire to sit here and have such a conversation with you as may seem to be suggested, as it would be an excersise in both stupidity and futility on my part.

Mike McC 02-06-2004 03:49 AM

Synk, actually, its a good policy. If we were to let even the slightest bit through, we would pretty much be saying "Hey! Spam is groovy here!" to all those who would think that a tiny bit of slack on the rules is no rule at all. It's all about consistancy. You gotta be consistant if you want things to stay the same. And that means making no exceptions.

I learned that while watching a restraunt I worked for go all to hell.

Zweihander 02-06-2004 10:14 AM

BF is pretty on target. This is the only board I post on, mainly because the people here aren't idiot spammers. I like to see a tight ship run. Besides, the more spam, the less bandwidth for real converstion.

dragonglove 02-06-2004 11:51 AM

As long as we're still on the topic of Gaia, I hang out in the Gaian Exchange. Basically, it's where you go if your only goal is getting money without spamming. I really have little interest in RPing or talking to most of the people down there. But making an attempt at getting the better items, bidding, charity work, and lottos are fun.

Yeah, this really is true. The higher you set the bar, the higher people are when they miss it and the easier it is to recognize those who don't even try. I mean, lots of people are willing to obey all the rules or try to, and so if they fall a little short of expectations then they are just gently placed back on track. If people are total idiot spammers then it's easier to justify tossing them is clear established rules are set, because they are not only self-centered idiots who do not intend to add anything to the community, they are also disobeying the rules.

RaiRai 02-09-2004 06:02 PM

I'm a General Discussion regular at Gaia, recognised and well know with a post count of 10000+. It's not hard to fit in, and you don't NEED to spam, but Mash is right. If you feel like you can't keep your typing fingers at ease, then head there. I'm sure the Chatterbox would welcome some of you with open arms...

redhead546 02-09-2004 06:16 PM

I checked it out. I'm glad that these boards are regularly watched by the mods. I occasionally like spam if it's funny but not stupid stuff like "I'm gold hungry" or "I want gold".

Krylo 02-09-2004 07:56 PM

I'm a chatterbox and ED regular. Why? Because flaming is fun... but so is having a rational discussion.
