FF VI Advance: The Breakdown
Alrighty.
So I've been playing FF VI Advance for a week now and wanted to give a breakdown of some things that have changed. Name Changes: None of the Characters have changed names. They kept all of them intact to preserve the feel of the game, and some of the pre-translated scripting no doubt. However, many NPCs will have names changed. You'll notice right off the bat that Whelk is now Ymir. Many monsters in the game also have been changed. Espers too. Y'all remember Shoat(I think it was Shoat), one of the first 4 espers you get that teaches you the grey magic stuff? Now it's Cait Sith. There are others but I don't know them all off hand... Skill names are also changed. Swordtech is now properly renamed to Bushido. You'll also notice the characters have their official classes next to their names, and Cyan is in fact a Samurai (There was a debate about this when the game first game out). Alot of his bushido moves were also renamed to reflect a Samurai-esque style. Some of the blitzes have been renamed. Fire Dance is now Phoenix Rising. And sadly, "Son of a Submariner" is now "Son of a Sandworm"... Difficulty: It seems to have been made a bit easier than before for someone who isn't used to the final fantasy system to pick it up and play it. Bosses also seem nerfed so far... (I beat Dadaluma in Zozo in 2 rounds at level 15 using Aura Bolt and Chainsaw twice each) More to come as I continue to explore the game (I would've gotten farther, but I've not had a day off at the Big N since the day I got that game). |
How the fark did you get the game so early? I can;t get my copy till tuesday

As long as Kefka remains as sadistically, insane, murdererly, and Kefkaesque as before, I have no complain about having FFVI in my pocket.

Shall we take out the pitchforks and the fire? Yes, yes we shall. |
Kefka is even worse now that certain things have been added, longer explanations on some things. More background on some of the characters. They did manage to keep his whooping laugh, his most redeemable quality imho.

I work at the big N, yo. :P I almost forgot this one piece of info (If you have Nintendo Power you'll see this in the new issue you'll recieve). The Czar dragon. He's finally there. You beat all 8 dragons and unlock a special area. You go there, fight all 8 dragons in a row. Than you get to meet, and beat the Czar Dragon. (Not gonna spoil the reward surprise) |

Yes! Stray! THANK YOU!!! :P It's been 12 years, I'd forgotten that things name... I never really wanted that esper's skills except for float.. |
I played ff6 on the snes and I never beat it. I never went back because I did not want to spend another 30 hours to get back to were I was. Although, now I might get it for the GBA.

Even easier? Last time I played it no one came even close to dying in the final battle. (Well, except Kefka, obviously.)

Does the Vanish + Doom trick still work? Because if it does I see no reason to go to that dungeon and fight eight half-assed monsters to obtain a Gilgamesh esper or whatever the thingamajig may be there. And I hope the Relm glitch is FINALLY fixed. |
