Fuckin' Dr. McNinja!

So since we just spent a bunch of time bitching about how hard Megatokyo sucks, I thought we could talk about a comic that is the total polar opposite of suck. IE Totally Awesome.

I'm really impressed with Gordito's growth as a hero. I mean, he pulled off that one-liner beautifully. I'm a little disappointed that they let Dr. McNinja have a by on beating the chainsaw-chucks-wielding Superninja, but Claude Raines's incipient asskicking should totally make up for that.

better a plot device then a deus ex machina. Megas excluded of course.

I mean if you think about it he could never have beaten that guy. So they just sent him on his way.

Satan's Onion 02-24-2007 02:12 AM

Ah, Dr. McNinja. It's one of my favorite webcomics--well drawn (if we're going to compare this to Megatokyo, I do like this over the sketchiness of MT; Dr. McNinja actually looks finished to me), well written and exceedingly hilarious, with a heapin' helpin' of ninja awesomeosity. This is one of those comics for which I can never just wait patiently for updates; I have to step away from it for a few months at a time and then just sort of binge on it.

High time I did that, come to think, if threads like this are being made here.

You may actually want to hold off for a couple of weeks if that's your style of thing, it's sort of dangling just at the end of the latest story arc so it's just gonna suck you into daily reading and driving yourself nuts waiting for one cliffhanger after another, but the whole thing looks to be wrapping up in the aforementioned time frame so after that you'll be good to go.

Satan's Onion 02-24-2007 02:22 AM

So I shall, then. I'll fill my time with browsing Superdickery, and probably catching up with some of my other webcomics as well, like Order of the Stick or something.

ElfLad 02-24-2007 02:26 AM

Dr. McNinja is forged of seventy distinct styles of awesome. Dan McNinja has to be my personal favorite character.

greed 02-24-2007 02:47 AM

I kinda like the gorilla nurse myself. And yes "We're on central pain time and it's Dan o'clock" . Gordito's turning into my favourtie though.

Not such a good idea with Order of the Stick, it's at the top of a major major arc like Dr McNinja and should start winding down in a month or so. Start now and you'll be stuck update hanging like I am. Come to think of it Sluggy's the same, it's like fucking webcomic sweeps at the moment.

Really I'd describe OOTS more as being at is sort of a lull just before launching into a major plot sequence, so now really wouldn't be that bad a time. Plus they did recently tie up a whole hell of a lot of dangling plot threads.

Satan's Onion 02-24-2007 04:38 AM

Considering I'm probably going to start from the first comic ('cos it's been a while and hey, I read quick) the point at which the plot is now may not be such a problem for me.

Meister 02-24-2007 07:38 AM

It's great how Dr. McNinja can serve its readers the biggest heaps of bullshit ever (see: jetpack, organic) and make it so believable you don't even think twice.

Aerozord 02-24-2007 01:25 PM

I would have to agree there. They come up with the most unbelievable things but you just sit back and accept it because you are so overcome with awesome.

I also like how unlike most webcomics this one doesn't do manga style, instead it is much more like a traditional american comic.

Arlia Janet 02-24-2007 03:29 PM

Nothing is unbelievable when Ninjas are involved.

They alone expand the horizon of human potential.

And I mean, this is a Ninja who is also a Doctor. Which pretty much throws the horizon right out.

Krylo 02-24-2007 05:11 PM

He's an Irish ninja who is also a doctor.

mudah.swf 02-24-2007 05:38 PM

I liked that bit in one of the early story arcs where he chopped up the pirates with rock-hard four leaf colvers.

Mirai Gen 02-24-2007 06:19 PM

What I like the most about Dr. McNinja is the fact that it dances so delicately between the borders of serious (with the way he does the art) and hilarious (with the subject matter).

Aerozord 02-24-2007 07:29 PM

I love that arc. It was so funny because as he was using the shamrock shuriken he just kept repeating "SO STUPID!"

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 02-24-2007 08:45 PM

dr Mcninja is 15 degrees of awesome on two different levels. The comic themselves and the tag lines they have.

mauve 02-26-2007 06:18 PM

I discovered Dr. McNinja not too long ago and I am hooked. Any comic that has Mexican bandits riding dinosaurs and Danish ninja-killers ordering an attack on a car being driven by a clone of Benjamin Franklin is an awesome comic in my book.

As for Gordito, I'm finally starting to like him. I used to hate him; that whole "young kid following in the hero's footsteps" thing always irritates the hell outta me. But he's growing on me. Excellent job being done on developing that character.

Quote:

He walks the fine line between healer and killer, achieving perfect balance. And... um... He's Irish, which is... cool.

Mirai Gen 02-27-2007 02:09 PM

I just re-read the Vs Mc Donalds story arc.

I love the invisible rocket launcher. Proof that this guy is a goddamn genius.

Lord of Joshelplex 02-27-2007 02:23 PM

Oh man, I cant believe I have been unaware of this. I must learn more.

POS Industries 02-27-2007 02:25 PM

Look, I'm not saying that my current theme has anything to do with this "Dr. McNinja" comic of yours, but you can probably read between the lines well enough.

But I'm not saying it!

Mirai Gen 02-27-2007 02:41 PM

Everyone knows Ronald is evil.

Dr. McNinja was just the first to say it.

Pretty much, except I'd also include Miho flipping a total shit and getting Depaladined, which... well, I'd been waiting on for a while now.

It's Miko fifth, someone's got MT on the brain. I'll be nice and assume it's from all the hating.

BTW, OOTS SPOILERS Miko going Blackguard got shot down pretty stylishly didn't it. Well shot down at least for now.

Regulus Tera 02-28-2007 10:28 PM

Fuck you guys. This is the first time that I've even heard of Doctor McNinja, and now I'm as hooked as I was a cheap whore.

This is why I love these forums so much.

Yeah, the art/subject matter juxtaposition has definitely got to be one of the main draws (hah! pun intended, motherfucker!) for me. It reminds me a lot of when Bill Watterson would occasionally draw Calvin and Hobbes in a very "serious" style, but while maintaining the absurd dialogue, and to a lesser extent, his Tracer Bullet stuff.

And being like Calvin and Hobbes can never really be a bad thing.

Exactly the same for me, I found it yesterday, and I'm already done. This comic is 110% hillarity, and I love it.

Aerozord 03-02-2007 09:04 PM

I have two words that now solidify Dr. McNinja's greatness. Butt Punch

two things, how did he get down there? And... is that death?

Axl 03-02-2007 11:02 PM

Ch-Ch-Ch-Check it out!

Frans countered the butt-punch and sent McNinja flying through a window. And well he landed in a pool.

Yes, that is death, in swim trunks.

Astfgl 03-17-2007 10:42 PM

Absolutely hilarious. My favorite line has to be:

Guard 1: "I didn't think ninjas had super strength!"
Guard 2: "He's a doctor too!"

Nique 03-18-2007 01:18 AM

Man. I liked Dr. McNinja BEFORE it was cool to like Dr. McNinja.

Well, I mean... before it started being cool. Becuase it is still pretty cool.

"McNinja, party of one, your table is ready."

Now thats just an outright lie

Its always been cool to like Dr McNinja because by its very nature its not possible to be uncool.

Replace 'cool' with 'popular'?

this is why I keep breathing, you know? It's like, you go through life hoping it all makes sense some day and then suddenly...

A fucking Dr who is also a ninja! I can't believe I've waited so long for this, it's as if my entire life up to this point was nothinig but a prelude to that single, glorious moment when I realized someone out there had the talent, vision and balls to illustrate Mexican banditos riding velociraptors.

I'm sorry, I can't type any longer, the tears are making my fingers slippery.

Dr. McNinja is the latest in a long of line of ODD stuff that entertains our little sub-culture. I mean, we're a generation who thought that turtles who were also teenagers, ninjas, and mutants, numbered amoung the greats in american history. I mean, kid's lost flashlights in the sewer drain just trying to catch a glimpse of them in all their "radical" splendor.

Maybe it's just anything with "ninja" in it... I mean, there was also those pizza cat things?

Does anyone know what the current story arc for Dr. McNinja is? I went to current comics and it was just a bunch of guest comic doo doo. Was there anything written after the ninja drug series?

Aerozord 03-25-2007 03:45 PM

the current storyline is just fan comics. Though some of them are really good, like when his dad came to class.

your having sex with Dr McNinja?

Skyshot 03-29-2007 10:49 PM

So I checked out this comic today and I can only say it's a shame it isn't longer.

Personally, my favorite part is just watching the doctor just...well...flipping out and doing ninja stuff, all somehow without Mary-Sueing it up in the least.

I mean, really.

" Yeah, don't get out of the car. One of them got the phone from me for a sec."

Seriously. How awesome is that? And the whole thing about ninjas plotting their actions ten steps in advance? So cliché, but somehow, Dr. McNinja made it awesome.

Also, I wish I could draw like that. Seriously, if I could pick a visual art style to be good at, that would be it.

Nique 04-06-2007 11:25 PM

Sometimes Dr. McNinja is pretty sketchy art... Inks are usually decent, but the art isn't always top-notch...

Anyway, it's not really an issue. It isn't high drama, it isn't trying to be something it isn't... It's a ridiculously fun and awesome webcomic and the art generally reflects the tone of the comic extremely well.

Such wonders I never knew! ...Figured getting this one back up would be better than a new thread.

Anydangways, to date the good doctor has fought; 1)Giant Lumberjack 2)Security Guards 3)Pirates 4) Banditos 5)Male Model 6)Fakey-Ninjas 7)Chuck Noris-esque Ninja Killer...

And now Zombies it looks like? Also terminally ill cancer patient if you count the guest strips! Fun times!

Oh yeah... Dr Mcninja is two tons of awesome, stuffed into a one ton container. and somehow it all fits... that's how awesome it is.

Funka Genocide 04-07-2007 08:20 AM

strangely enough, I was thinking to myself the other day "what could possibly make Dr. McNinja more enjoyable than it all ready is?"

the obvious answer was zombies, more to the point, zombie-ninjas.

God I love it when the universe unfurls as it should.

Actually, what's hilarious is that Dr. McNinja is dressed as MJ's date in the Thriller video, where Benjamin Franklin is atually playing Micheal Jackson's role.

Hilarious.
