I don't understand how you can award music. It doesn't seem that black and white.

Celebrities earn more money than any other profession, excluding certain businessmen. If you really want me to un-generalize that statement, pretend I typed "on average."
Celebrities have the adoration of their fans.
Celebrities, for various reasons, are often elevated in position by society, much resembling the old aristocracies.

Do they really need to waste everyone's time with award shows? They just want more attention as they vie for the most power in their respective markets.

I am not saying I dislike celebrities or popular culture completely; there are several things about them I enjoy and of which I participate. I just think award shows are useless. They never change my opinion; I know best what I like.

This is a fairly profound statement, and very true.

Except they do not hold something like 80% of the country's lands, dominate all idustries, and have crushing power on those below them and all levels of government and military. Other than that, yeah they are famous and coveted for being rich and usually endowed with some gift or other.

That would be why I typed "resembling."

Heh. I was talking about this once with someone else who made an interesting point: certain celebraties at award shows are almost certainly nominated solely that they'll show up, thereby boosting ratings. What a sad little world we live in.

Also, the view in that damned award show is as narrow as MTV's playlist--if not moe narrow.
