WinMugen
I did a search on the forums to see if this was anywheres, and only found a post by Bellsouth that only mentioned it and nothing more.
I've recently stumbled across Mugen and have downloaded it. However, I need characters, lots of them seeing as their is basically an infinite number. It's hard finding them online, so I was wondering if anyone here possibly has Mugen as well as characters they'd be willing to pass on to me. Or a good place to get them, either one works. |
I have several, but I'm currently fixing my cpu and therefore to busy at the moment. After I'm done I'll post some links. Good luck getting Cless and Kyle(took me a week, but jesus they rock)
|
OK, if anybody wants 372 MUGEN characters. PM me.
Feels like Frets on Fire all over again. |
What is Mugen?
|
In very basic terms... it' s a program that lets you make a customizable 2-D fighter. And it's kinda old... so there are shitloads of characters, stages, etc. created by now. Many of which are faithful to their official counterparts.

That will explain it. And note that only the starter pack link from Megaupload works. All of those character links DO NOT work. Hence why I need more seeing as I only have 25. |
ALL RIGHT! :D
I have prepared the Mega MUGEN Storm for the qq babies out there who want it. This is essentially, Nearly 400 characters, Little over 200 Stages I think, I dunno how many BGM's, and a fancy EVE screen pack so it looks nice. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! :O It's organized (to about a 90% fanciness degree, gimme a break) and ready to fucking go! They're four Megaupload links that total 1.5 Gbs Zipped I think, 2.something unzipped. Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four If for some reason you don't want this godly super deal, (For example you hate everything good and decent with existence) and just want the something specific, like the characters (8xx Mb), just ask! If I broke the rules here in some way, feel free to change existence as you see fit. Happy fighting. |
CommTZ And ProPs 2 axL Lolozl
Sorry, couldn't resist. Now if only I can get a decent gamepad... |
I thank you ever so much for this package. It is like the one I was trying to put together back in the day, althugh mine only had about 50 people and featured some pretty weird ones like Chrono (the mini sprite from the original SNES game) and others that just plain wouldn't work in this setting.
But slight problem I'm facing is, I'm enjoying the game immensely, but it crashes a lot. If there's any ideas you have to why that might be happening, that would be nice. I plan on going and adding to thislist of characters soon of I can make the game more stable! I had some great characters back in the day and some great stages, like the giant Tokyu stage and I wanna find those old school Mario stages and other stages where you play levels of games like Mario or Sonic with other characters. But I'll try to read up on it. Also Mr. Viewtiful. Get a USB to PS1 adapter converting your PS1 (or PS2) controller into a joypad. Instantly making it into good for anything like this or even good for a secondary mouse that does 14 different hotkeys when not in use for gaming. |
There are two things I can think of that may work.
First, and most unlikely, maybe it just needs some fresher MUGEN. The base client is here. HERE The other solution may be that it needs to be re-put together again. I'll try to freshen up the screenpack and look over the code this weekend. In the meantime you could always do what I do to amuse myself. Take the base client and try out characters one by one. Takes a while, but you can find some gems that way. |

The other problem I'm hoping its not is that my computer might just be weak. But it shouldn't be too weak. I am runing a 733 mhz Pentium III with 512 RAM thats 7 years old (yes I'm trying to get a new computer), but it SHOULD be able to run MUGEN if configured properly. But possibly this guy configured his MUGEN to play powerfully and for really amazing stuff. I mean, I was crashing on stages from some kind of EVA stage, from using the Super Mario 64 character (used him twice to make sure), and randomly durring certain high graphics stages when lots of music, menu graphics and stage movement was going on all at once. However, when I picked the Flash (btw I LOVE HIM!!!!), I was able to play as him in arcade mode for 3 full battles (7 rounds) before the game crashed. I'm downloading the fresh MUGEN client and trying it. Edit: Fresh mugen client didn't work. Gonna try to start reading up on how to start building MUGEN from scratch but I'm on Windows and they of course love Prinnies. So any help with this would greatly be appreciated. |
Mine works wonderfully. Lots of characters. The SSJ4 Goku is amazing.
The one thing that made me sad though is no DragonClaw. He's in the chars folder, but he's not selectable in the game. He's amazing. I had him in the 25 character Mugen that I had before. |
Tool: If the Dragonclaw folder is not empty, then just add him to the select.def file in data! If it is empty, then no worries mon! Because Dragonclaw is easy peasy to get. So Easy
|
I added in "DragonClaw" below where it says "add your characters here." And nothing happened. Still no DC. His character folder isn't empty either. And the select file doesn't have any other characters in it. Just a bunch of stage crap.
|
lol, i forgot to specify. In the data folder, go to the EVEbattle folder and mess with the select.DEF in there. Should be a whopping 24 kbs. Then scroll down and find a random select and replace it with THE DRAGONCLAW.
P-P-Problem solved. |
Rockhouse. DragonClaw is the fucking man. Thanks a ton.

Hey Axl, quick question, which chars you have, There are several rare ones,
namely the demigodly cless alvein and kyle dunamis, that are hared to get. Took me a week to find them and now there gone ;.; |
NMR, I will never have a desire to type 370 names on my own time. I can however tell you that I do not have those to characters... UNTIL NOW THAT IS.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta. It really wasn't that hard just click on the mug shots to get the characters. Anybody else? |

B)Yes it is! On a side note, I just bumped up the character total to 470 or something. I figure that once I fill the screen I'll upload an updated version. |
Ok, well, I took The MUGEN build you posted here over to my friends house and tried it out and basically confirmed that it isn't just my computer crashing because of RAM or it being old or anything. The build just had problems. We played it a good 2-3 hours and it was crashing all over the place due to certain characters, levels and the music was lagging, including the random song that kept playing when you were selecting your characters on the menu screen.
So basically, I'm going to try to make my own build, hopefully with my friends help (yeah, if he ever is not on WoW...). ----- Edit: After tons of my own editing of Mugen today and weighing tests vs two different types of MUGEN vs the one you posted here, I have come to the conclusion that WinMUGEN has a hard time handling MP3s. Or possibly some sound cards or possibly certain hardware setups have a problem in game playing MP3s while MUGEN is running at the same time. Everything else checks out ok, from stages to characters to the screenpacks, but when sound is added, midis and sound effects arefine. Only when MP3 music is added does lag and crashing occour. I'm convinced, aside from a few level and character bugs, that these are the things that was causing all the crashes of the game that would cause MUGEN to crash on my computer, but also on my friends super powerful, 3 month old $1,200 dollar computer. So, pretty much I have no solution to this problem since there's no alternative except just using midis or no music at all. And I'd much rather have MP3 music. Other than this, I've figured out pretty much how to do everything else in a day. All I need to do is figure out how to propperly line up the characters on the select screen and do the work of putting in all the characters (and balancing their stats) and then adding each stage and music. ----- Edit 2 Ok, the problem is not that WinMUGEN has a problem with MP3s. Its that WinMUGEN has a problem with 'Hardware Acceleration' of sound. Which can be turned off by going to Countrol Panel>Sounds and Devices and then the Audio Tab and then Advanced. Then just drag the bar under Hardware Acceleration from wherever it is to None. |
Installation Process
While on the note of MUGEN, I just extracted the file, but I'm not getting any specific instructions on how to "officially" install the dang thing on my computer...help?
:rmage: Red Mage will give you a +2 circumstance bonus to your INT modifier... |

Quick tip. Look for a file called 'MWC' on google if you are looking to edit MUGEN. If not then just open the .exe and have fun. On that note, I have pretty much learned how to do everything else, aside from editing characters themselves and for some reason on my build the arcade mode won't shuffle the characters randomly, they always start challenging me from the first guy and go down the line. But other than this, my Mugen build is coming along swimmingly and at a swift pace. And I got a second person helping me. Between the 100 characters we've downloaded so far and 150 stages, plus more we're gonna keep getting, this is going to be a blast. |

dvr88: threadbumping = bad.
This thing hasn't had any posts since mid-March. I suggest you read the rules if you haven't already. |
I don't think he was thread-bumping... only y'know, asking for characters in a relevant thread. Also, maybe 2 or 3 from that list I have... the rest, you can work hard and search like anyone else. Good luck!
