I'm so jealous of artists
Hi! I'm new here. You artists are so lucky. I really wish i could draw, but I can't even take an art class because my school schedule is so full! i'm gonna try and take it next year as a sophmore, but i don't know if i'll be able to :( . I'm gonna try and get into that class though! i've started working on a bit of anime(which i bet is probably real stupid since i haven't really had any art classes). maybe i can get a few pics up soon.

Hey! i'm a fresman too, and I can't draw too well. however my dad is teaching me and he says you should just practice drawing things around you. start with simple things and then move onto hard and you will improve over time. Good luck and wish ME luck ;) .

one thing that helps is just drawing as much as possible. Draw when ever you get the chance: spare time, boring school lessons (im rather prone to doing that), anytime you get the chance. Art classes will help a lot but the main thing is drawing! (I never took any art classes) In closing let me give you a website or two that might help:

I agree, you should always try to draw, especially during boring classes, as your imagination becomes free to do as it wants, because you don't have to pay attention then. Just draw, and don't mind the result in the beginning.

I couldn't agree more. Class is where I got the most practice and where it seemed like my creativity was at its peak. Also, while you are drawing, don't get frustrated with yourself if your pic doesn't turn out the way it does. Having a good attitude about it can really help you focus. *looks at piles of paper balls with her previous failures on them* heh, maybe I should take my own advice.

To tell you the truth, I never learned anything from art classes. But that may be just my own personal experience, because my teachers never actually taught anything. They just told us to sit and sketch which is basically something you could do anywhere. But art classes are still a good idea, especially if you want a time in your day where you can legitimately draw and not get in trouble like in other classes (as I have and still do)...

I taught myself to draw. ^^;; (nope, it's not natural talent either) I didn't take art classes until this year, and while I like them and I do learn a lot from them, I learn more about realism in art class and backgrounds. We haven't started drawing people yet. ^^;; (right now we're hand-carving jewelry)
but one of the biggest thing I learned from an art class is the psychological effects of colors and color relations and such. It helps me design better if I know what colors do to each other if they are close together. ^^; The only thing I can say is draw, and draw often. That's how I learned. I drew a whole picture a day when I was teaching myself. ^^ |
Thanks for the advice. I'm still mad about how I can't seem to fit art into my school schedule next year. I really want to, but too many other classes(damn). I need a good plan ( :rmage: ). Oh well. Time for bed. Drawing practice tomorrow.

Yeah, I know how it is to wanna be able to draw like the big shots. Practice is indeed important.
I never make time for myself to draw, so uh... I started a webcomic. Doing drawn webcomics, either scanned or on the computer, teaches you two things - one, it improves your drawing skills, even if you're doing some sort of stylized Sunday comics style. Two, it forces you to keep a deadline. Even if no one reads your comic. But I wouldn't really recommend doing such a thing unless you're prepared to take time out doing a webcomic every so often. If you're overworked but decide to do one, best thing's to do is make it biweekly or something, to give yourself a lot of time to prepare for an update day. Know what I'm saying? |
seriously Struben you have entered a goldmine of advice.
