Final Boss or Master?
 

growing up I and everyone I knew called the last boss of a game "the master" now it turns out the more people I talk to tell me they always called it the final boss and never heard anything like that.

So I was wondering as a kid or even now does anyone still think of the final boss as the master? Or was I part of a small group of kids who used the term master while everyone else was calling it final boss the whole time.

you were part of a small group. I've always known them as the "Final Boss" or "Endgame Boss"

I think it's just you. Final boss is the only term I've ever heard as well.

Plus calling it a master implies that it's the toughest boss in the game and as we know that isn't neccesarily true, especially with RPGs.

I think that's why master always made more sense to me, because the final boss should be the hardest and he's the master of all the bosses. Hmm... maybe my brother or someone came up with the term or something, I don't think I've ever seen a magazine refer to the last boss as the master.

Well, if the last boss had a title of master, I could see it working...

Yep, final/last boss. Did it maybe come from the Megaman "Robot Masters"?

Endgame Boss for the main story and Uber Boss for the strongest boss in the game.

Big boss, endgame boss, final boss, last boss, are my only terms. The "master" coming from megaman makes sense though.

I've never heard master. I say the name of the last boss and only use the term last boss if I'm talking generically or have to tell someone who the last boss is.

This brings something similiar to mind, though. What do you say when complete a game? Finished, beat, passed, completed, something else altogether? I myself have always used beat, but I do know some people who say passed which sounded akward the first time I heard it.
