Making your own storylines

I was reflecting on old gaming habits of mine and recalled one fairly odd one I had when I was really little.

When playing games (usually RPGs) when I would get to the point that all RPGs have when you can wander the world at your leisure or go defeat the final boss, I would make up my own story lines and use the characters to act it out (imagining the events). For example, I remember in FF6, I would make up a story about Celes when she was a general of the empire and would run around with Celes in Vector, acting out my story (the rest of the events occurring in my imagination)

Ocarina of Time got lots of "alternate storylines' from me, often having something to do with Link being a delivery boy for Lon Lon ranch and eventually getting captured by the Gerudos (since I always thought that Gerudo fortress was the coolest place). Once even I stuck in a CD and made up a... uh... music video with Link (how? by having specific moves and places Link would go to that would fit with the music) (Also, I realize that Ocarina of Time isn't that old so i can't use the excuse that I was a silly little kid at the time)

Did anyone else do this or anything LIKE this? Or am I a complete weirdo with an overactive imagination?

If not, are there any other super-weird things you would do in a game (so I don't feel like a complete nimrod)

I should have seen this coming when I saw your Deviant Journal.

I've been speculating the continuation of Guilty Gear XX's storyline for so long now I might as well be right. It's starting to blur the lines of what cannon is.

Also: I worry of what the dreaded 'fanfiction' might come of this thread...

Oh my I did this all the time! RPGs were the major genre that got warped in this way but interesting I use to do it to strategy games too. Starcraft in particular got a heavy makeover in my mind because you are forced to make irrational decisions and follow stupid characters willing to sacrifice the universe to save thier buddies. Also my youth was dominated by a commodore 64. You kind of had to make up stories for those games as they had none!

KOTOR: Revan and HK-47 are trapped in the Tomb of Ajunta Pall on Korriban and fall in love with each other. Damn, why didn't they make HK-47 as a love interest? That would be pretty hot.

If anyone has looked in the RaiRO forums, I'm doing this right now. :)

But I had some alternate story lines with FF and Resident Evil 2 going on. One with Wesker being alive and coming to take out Leon after they escape from Raccoon City (a few years later, here comes Veronica. O_o)

FF and 7... Baret came back, was controlled by Shinra, and finally got his arm back as an attachment.

I never said they were original... >_>

one thing that I used to do with dbz roms downloaded in japanese is make up whatever the characters were saying, making the very serious story line of the cell saga into a laugh out loud riot.

Man was not meant to create storylines to games. See what happens when you play OG a lot: http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?i...sesslervb4.jpg

It was strong enough to destroy the Granzon...

I remember making up stories when playing LoZ as well... Although, I never made a music video, so I guess the similarities end there.

Sometimes, whenever something bad happens (the villian killing someone, stealing something, etc.), I imagine if I had been behind the Villain, said something to grab his attention to the affect of "Hey Asshole!", then blew him away with a magnum after a pithy comment.

Yeah, a bit small-minded, but hey, it makes me feel cooler. :p

I guess seeing as how I do machinima in multipule game engines I would have to say I am guilty of this sacrilage....
Although, I would like to think that my way of doing things is more sane then CelesJessa's way....

Man.. you are in for it now, CelesJess. v.v... *ahem*

SMRPG. Oh yeah, Super Mario RPG, made up an entire SMRPGII with Geno's daughter Gen, Luigi, Toad, Croco, Smithy, and then original SMRPG cast. The badguys were Daisy, and her husband, Maestrio a blue-outfitted egomaniac. I made sprites of Gen, Maestrio, Daisy and Luigi, editted sprites of Toad, and even made a few powerpoint presentations. They were pretty funny.

CastleVania. Oh yeah, when I was young, I had a character named Nohan. My friends made fun of Nohan and sicked him against CastleVania characters as "Nohaans", a funnier and much less graphically-appealing character. Ever since, I've made come-back comics of Nohaans killing easily these characters, and when I played Aria of Sorrow, I sicked Julius and Soma into the mix and created my own game plan. I've made 5 different types of maps of "Castle Edea", a new dimension created by Julius and Soma using the energy of Dracula's Castle to accidentally pull people from time and space into their own time and realm. I've written several "walkthrough"s of it too.

I remember when I was REALLY young, I made up my own addons to Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Yeah, I made it 2x longer, made up my own songs to it, etc. The Aria of Wind that I made up (yes, before Gamecube even came out) and the Ballad of Earth fooled and dumbfounded those who hadn't unlocked all the warp songs when I asked which midis were fake and not from the real game. I was baddass back then. I created bosses, new levels, new storyline, everything. It was crazy.

There are so much more, but those are the main ones. I often play in N64 or hawkeye sprite games and play with the characters like action figures, doing my own voice impressions and running around. Notice present tense.... So embarrassing..

Oh yeah, and then there was this one time, I tried making a game for a popular comic because I liked it so much.
