Does anyone here know Neil Gaiman's Sandman? I've only read 2 and there's some questions I want to ask that I'm not sure the others will.

Im pretty sure Krylo does, he has some quotes of it in his AIM profile, might want to ask him. You know, if he doesnt see this himself. >_>

sweet jesus yes! that is an awesome comic. I have only read the first volume of the Graphic Novel, but i can't wait to read the others. I'm just waiting for the others do go hard back. Since i have lack money and time to read time, i can wait.

I love the Sandman! I've read almost all of the graphic novels (I think 8 out of the 10), but it's been awhile. Ask away though, I'll do my best to either answer them myself or direct you to someone/where that'll give you the answer.

In "Taller Tales", which is focused around the other Sandman characters beside the Endless (Merv, Thessala) it says something about there being another Dream/Sandman who retied, referred to as Morpheus and one they refer to as "the kid" took over, and had been Dream for all time after he took over.

I'm confused. It doesn't mention it anywhere else.

Yea, so here's the thing with that:

Although the Endless are well, endless, they do die. What happens is that they chose someone else to take their place and they infuse their essence into them (the replacements look exactly like the originals). So, it's as if they never really died, they just were reborn inside another person (who knows some of what they remembr, more get revealed later on in their rule). A big funeral is held for the original, and then the new Endless presents him/herself to the masses and the other Endless. I'm not sure how much you've read of Sandman, and I can't remember which volume "taller tales" is in, but if you want the whole story (with spoilers) pm me because I don't want to give it all away to everyone else.

Also, if you're confused because "the kid" is all white when he shows up, and not black-eyed/black-haired like tha OG Morpheus, it's because he used to be all-white in his yout' too. There's a panel in the very first book where Gaiman meant for this to be shown, but because the character was holding a maaaagical ruby in that shot, the colorist made him pink. (Wouldn't the whole book have been funnier if Gaiman had decided to stick with that instead of white?) So far as I know Gaiman never explained why Original Flava Morpheus turned black-haired, but if any of you know, please do tell!

In Endless Nights, they have bth Morpheus and Daniel.

Kind of sucky and pointless to screw with the main character like that, much as I love Sandman, or was it mostly actually based on "the kid" and only in the early days about Morpheus?

Or was it the same actually... conciousness, just influenced by another body?

Or is it some kind of symbiote thing like the Trill?

I haven't read Endless Nights yet, but it's supposed to be mostly a collection of short stories about the characters, each of which takes place in a different part of the overall Sandman storyline, I think. Is this the first Sandman book you've ever read? Because if it is, no wonder you're confused -- there's about what, six or seven books' worth of backstory you're missing. :O

Well, as Morpheus himself explained it at one point, think of it like looking at a jewel with many facets. Each facet maybe reflects the light differently, shines in a different way, but they're all part of the same jewel. It's not so much a thing of the same consciousness in different bodies or a host/symbiote thing as it is...kind of like different people doing the same job. Joe Schmoe might be the fry cook for a while until he quits and is replaced by Suzy Q., but there's always going to be a fry cook no matter who it is doing the job.

it is as they explain during the funeral, a point of view, morpheus was the original as far as i can tell there was none before him, i own all ten of the original graphic novels as well as endless nights and the furies, which book did you read that made you confuse? i think the best one is the kindly ones, great drawings and great story.
