Going to buy a new computer. Opinions?
Hello all, I am looking to buy a new computer. I have an idea of whatI want, but some input is always appreciated.

Yeah, you basically described my computer, but with less HDD space and a better DVD-RW and GPU.
To be honest, unless you find uber-good deals, or are going to be guaranteed to play cutting-edge games, it's kind of overkill at this stage. That's going to be expensive. It'll run like a dream, though. Also: You sure you need a sound card? I'm running fine on onboard sound; you definitely have the resources to spare. Finally, just noticed your PSU. Upgrade. If you want to be running the 8xxx series of cards, I'd say at least 500 W, if not 600. |
How's this then? 800W now :P
There is also the option of putting a 550W into the same system |
The graphics card sounds like overkill. I can't think of something offhand that requires that much power, unless you're into hardcore video editting or something. I mean, judging by your specs, budget clearly isn't an issue, but supposing it was, it would be cheaper in the long run to invest in multiple incremental graphics cards over time.

I'm going to agree with Azisien, it's really overkill. Get one of the higher-numbered 7xxx series instead; I'm using a 7900 GTO and I don't expect to have to replace it for several years, likely when I get another computer.
To be honest, I have to say that you might be better off doing the entire computer incrementally; by buying only what you need at the moment, and then replacing it with a new computer maybe two years later, for around the same price you get two decent computers, one capable of what you need and one slightly less capable, but both fully functioning. Build your own LAN centre! ;) |
Just putting it out ther: I assume this is a gaming computer.
|
It's for gaming and I need/want the brutal processing power for some graphical work
|
Dual Core FTW (I got one) The only game I cant run that well is NWN2, but that never runs well.
|
If you want to run a ton of stuff at once, I'd go for 1GB RAM. That's more than you'll need for quite some time. Or at least make sure you have extra slots. RAM is cheap, so you can always buy more if you really need it.
Edit: Or is that already 2GB you have planned? I'm too braindead from having to reprogram my assignment to do math right now. :sweatdrop Edit^2: And please tell me you meant your HDD is 16GB. 16MB won't get you far. XD |
16MB is just the cache
The HD is 320 Gb |
