well, he was just a regular vampire, after all. you fight a lot of them later in the game, in the sky tower, or whatever the tower that was in the desert was called. he wasn't a special monster at all. half the time, the loser casted 'afir' on the first round. but since old nintendo's version had a problem where the elemental/special effects didn't work, it did nothing.
and to think... i would try saving the rune/were/giant/coral swords, only to find years later that they did nothing. hell, what the hell was the weresword supposed to work on? |

I think I know what RM's plan is: He had previously stashed some phoenix downs in BM's robe, so when Lich King grabed him some of them fell out. I predict that BM will automatically be revived and the Lich King will be knocked out, but then reraised.

The special effects work properly in Final Fantasy Origins for PS1. I suggest you try it instead of the original FF - same game but much, much easier on the eyes + better translation. |

Back on topic, I still think that Fighter is going to go ballistic and power up to SS Fighter. If it actually will work is still up for discussion... |
Hmm.....
*remembers old issues* Can you say *poison* cookies? |
i doubt the poison will ever be cured. why would they keep questing if it is?
fighter got his 'armor' of invincibility thief'll have his earth orb (even if he can do a few trades to cure the poison) BM will be able to leave the group/fighter RM i don't really care what he does. i know, i know, they are supposed to defeat chaos and all, but i'm sure a freshly baked pie can make them forget all that... |

And only Wizard Vampires knew AFIR anyway. The first spell the Vampire casts is Dazzle, and that does almost, but not quite, nothing at all. The swords really didn't do anything, I think. However- The ice sword did a lot more to Kary than the fire sword. And, of course, no other weapon does more than about 8 damage on a critical, as opposed to the Ice Sword average of 100 or more. So I know that that sword did work. The Were Sword is very useful if you need 3500 bucks. And, whether it has special effects or not, the Rune Sword is a really badass weapon for the thief. And the giant sword... It's in the Gurgu Volcano and I don't waste my HP's getting it until I'm super powerful and feel like crashing those treasure chests for fast cash. And the Coral Sword, again, was a good thief weapon. Everything else that he can equip is pretty poor. |
yep, you're right, the regular vampires didn't know afir, the lone wizvamp did. there was rarely more than one of those guys, which sucked cuase they were good exp/gp.
the ice sword just had higher damage i thought, like 4 or 5 more than fire sword. never tried either against kary. none of the 'A[nti]' spells ever seemed to work for me though. |
Of course I'm right! I am the FF1 (nes) master!
And yes, it did suck that only 1 wz Vamp ever came out at a time. And no, the ice sword wasn't nearly that much more powerful on normal conditions. (But it was better...) And you just never used the anti spells. I recall quite vividly seeing Fire 2 do significantly less damage per person after AFIR. And when those cerberus things cast their dang heat spell... Afir brings the damage from 14-25 to about 4-6. I know that for a fact. |
i did waste my spell slots on those spells!
the few times i used them, they never seemed to be doing anything. |
I guess we all have different experiences.
Come to think of it though, I never bought AICE, and I never used ALIT (Even though I bought it) Maybe they don't work, but AFIR does, or it did for me. Either way- There were never enough spellcasters to make me ever go out of my way to waste a turn on Anti spells. Anti-Rub did work. I know that. And that also is the only one that is truly necessary. When Chaos casts CRACK, I mean, what else can you do but die. (ProRing? How about Aegis shield and a STFU) |
