He's got genetically altered blood.
So yeah, new Spider-Man 3 trailer. They got me, I'm gonna watch it and somehow sit through everything that doesn't involve Spider-Man, Sandman and Venom kicking the shit out of each other and New York to get to the parts that do. Tobey Maguire still gets on my nerves, but I'll manage as long as they tone down on the corny.
Official site. It's clunky to navigate, so here's the youtube version. |
The Spiderman movies are getting better though - I guess they're learning with experience. To be truthful - comic book movies in general are getting better (even though their creators don't think so)
Spiderman is getting great reviews/followings. Batman Begins tried to stay as true to the comics as possible, fans loved it. V For Vendetta was a great movie, even though it altered the original comic book, and was rejected by Alan Moore, (I think it's him) the comics creator. Sin City was Robert Rodriguez' attempt to create "not [his] Sin City, but Frank Miller's Sin City." It is the truest comic book/movie adaptation to date. X-Men is the iffy one. Some love it, some hate it - and I had the same feelings about Constantine; John Constantine is blond and british in the original comic series, Hellblazer. The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen and the Spawn movie... the less said about them, the better. And I'm eager to see what they do with Watchmen, which (from my sources) will be coming out in a bit. Comic book movies are starting to kick arse. But I know exactly what you mean about Toby Maguire. >> |
Eh, it doesn't look that bad. I might see it in the cheap seats

yeah, but its usually around the time the movie is going to DVD. |
I always see things during a matinee myself, that's cheap enough...though there's this really run-down and small theater in the other direction that has only two screens but lets you in for like two bucks AT NIGHT. It's a horrible experience, though.
Personally the preview I saw that had Harry beating up Parker (or Spidey, I mean, I think he was either in his Spidey guise or was just his regular self for once) and tossing him against buildings or whatever and said, "Wow, that looks fake, but it's pretty cool." The special effects just aren't very realistic. |
The Spiderman 3 movie looks interesting, but I probably won't see it in theatres. Spiderman 2 just didn't capture my interest like the original did. The whole reason I liked Spiderman in the first movie was that A) his identity was kept a secret despite everything and B) Spiderman actually liked being Spiderman. Peter Parker was cool because he enjoyed doing what he did. But then in Spidey 2, A) he starts hating the job (admittedly, for good reasons) and B) every five minutes he loses his mask!! Half of New York knows Spiderman=Peter Parker now! Where's the fun in that?!
Yeah, the movie had some great scenes and character development, but it didn't impress me to the point where I WON'T wait until Spiderman 3 comes out on DVD to see it. You know what comic book based movie I wish they'd make a sequel for? Hellboy. I don't care what anybody else says, I LIKED Hellboy. It was fun, had some decent fight scenes and a fairly involved plot, and most of the characters were very likeable. But I ain't seein' no stinkin' Hellboy 2. Everyone's going to kill me for that, I just know it. |
Hellboy was cool for like the first scene with the Nazis, then it became sort've dull. It helped spice up the section on the Russian Revolution section in my high-school history class by having that Rasputin fellow as the villain, though.
As for no Hellboy sequel, I present you with: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411477/ |
Hellboy rocked. I liked it too - and I am looking forward to the sequel. Best part?
[holding a corpse by a noose over his shoulder] Hellboy: This is Ivan Klimatovich. Say hi, Ivan. Ivan Klimatovich: [in Russian] Go that way, Red Monkey! Hellboy: [carrying the torso of a re-animated corpse over his shoulder] How you doing back there, Ivan? Ivan Klimatovich: [in Russian] If I still had legs, I'd kick your ass! Hellboy: [to agent] Could you hold this guy for a while? He is so negative. |
Hellboy's first adult on-screen appearance had a Tom Waits song in the background. Always love that. ^_^ Plus all the other stuff that makes Hellboy badass, of course. The movie really wasn't bad at all.
X-Men stopped being any kind of watchable once they decided to do away with the concept of plot and replaced it with cliches. |
