MGS: Holy shit I missed a lot
Wow, I cant believe I never played these before, they're fuckin awesome. I picked up MGS2, probably get MGS3 later this week, and need to locate a PS1copy of MGS. But I mena fuck, how can I have missed out on the awesomeness?
|
Welcome to the awesomeness, I'm glad you finally see the light. My least favorite of that series is MGS2 so you should be in for a real treat if you get either MGS1 or MGS3. Both have better stories IMO

I like MGS2, I prefer playin as Raiden, believe it or not, hes better at melee combat then Snake.
|
Sadly it's true, plus he doesn't have the nasty habbit of knocking his head into the stairs that Snake does while climbing up stairs (Raiden's somersault, if I remember correct, doesn't make you bust your head on the stairs) plus his grip is much better too.
MGS3 has much improved melee combat controls though with a wider array of options. CQC was a godsend compared to the fighting controls earlier in the series where only a 3 hit combo along with a choke-grab/throw was possible. Edit: You really should play MGS1 prior to playing MGS2. I had a headache trying to understand some of the stuff at the end of the second game and that was after already having played the first one. Oddly enough, you very well could play MGS3 before either 1 or 2 and still understand it all without feeling like you missed out on something. |
There is a long ass plot summary of the first one on the disk.

MGS3 is by far the best in the series, you play as Big Boss when he was Naked Snake in a mission in Soviet Russia. It's just such a huge step up in quality, story and characters(particularly The Boss, The Sorrow, Volgin and The End who has the best codename ever. Plus almost all of your radio contacts rock hard) on par with if not better than MGS1's, and gameplay classes above the first two.
Pick up Subsistence if you can BTW. It adds a lot. |
MGS2 made me think, why didn't they call it "Cut Scene: The game"?
|
Also what I love about the series is each game has direct ties with any other game.
Spoilers.. MGS1 has direct ties with MGS3 through Big Boss and Revolver Ocelot mainly. MGS1 has direct ties with MGS2 due to it being a direct sequel taking place only a few years later and having a lot to do with Liquid Ocelot, Snake, Otacon and Solidus. MGS2 directly connects with MGS3 through the Patriots. Great series though, I can't wait for MGS4 |

But yeah, really they should all be played in chronological order, like anything really. And by that I mean you should play; MGS3 (PS2), MGS:Portable Ops (PSP), MG (NES), MG2 (NES), MGS (PS1), MGS2 (PS2), MGS4 (PS3). THAT'S the order they should go in. But I suppose you can miss out the early NES games (at least I think they were NES) and portable ops, but you miss out on the whole story. EDIT: Oh and forget the Acids, they're not really considered canon. |
I wont ever play MGSPO though,I dont really ever intednt to get a PSP, though, Tekken PSP got a PS3 port, so maybe.
