Need help: Strange Virus

www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/ I can not access this link, and some ohter Norton/Symantec ones, and am under the impression this is some sort of virus, as others I know can access this link. I am using IE. Has anyone heard of a virus like this?

Use Firefox.

That's it. You should be using Firefox anyway. If that doesn't work, use AVG or avast! free editions to scan. You should be using those anyway, too. Also, run a Spybot S&D sweep. Again, why are you not using this?

well, Ive scanned, and last night, when trying to update Norton, I could not connect to the page where the updates were, and it would not auto update. Also, Firefox seems to just stop working after an hour, and I have to reinstall it.

I think he's saying you should just be using firefox as a matter of course, to keep this kind of thing happening in the first place.

Firefox wont run, for wahtever reason, after about an hour, regardless of what im doing, it just stops working and I have to reinstall it.

The response "LOL USE FIREFOX" is not only trite, it does nothing to answer the question. Oh, I certainly am aware that IE is much more exposed to problems, but it is still an equally viable browser, at least if a user is willing to patch their machine appropriately.

Firefox is nice, but zealotry is unnecessary.

The link provided redirects to another page. Also, is your version of Norton up to date (product version, not virus and feature updates)?

When you scanned, were you scanning just with Norton or also with Spybot and similar tools? Perhaps you could also look into a HijackThis! scan.

Actually, I was suggesting Firefox as I've found that some viruses/malware which disallows certain websites doesn't affect it (Browser hijackers, not hosts modifiers). Also, I personally have a much better experience with Firefox, especially due to the extensions.

Also note that I suggested scans with AVG, avast! personal, and Spybot, in order to fix the actual problem. If Firefox allowed for LoJ to access the site, then he could download the updates manually and use Norton to scan that way.

Please don't say I didn't answer the question when I did, at least with what he provided ;)

EDIT: Yeah, download AVG, avast!, and Spybot S&D, run the scans, and if that doesn't clear it up, run HijackThis! and post the log.

I never liked Norton, myself, but maybe I just had a bad experiance. I always use what I like to call "the three horsemen" for no real reason; Spybot: Search & Destroy, Adaware SE Personal, and AVG free. So far, I haven't missed anything since getting those three. What, other than the Norton, protection do you use?

Past that, I don't know how I could help you.

Okay, it seems to be giving invalid IPs or something, I dunno, but a lot of stuff I cant acess. Firefox wont either, and I dont know if I can get to the ABG site dowlonad section.

Try it anyway. If you can't get it to work, I'd try downloading it from somewhere else (A friend's house, perhaps?) and installing it from a flash drive. It definitely sounds like a hosts file error.

To check, go to %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ and look for the file. Open it with Notepad, and post what's there on here.
