Sony Stops Selling 20 GB PS3
Linkage
Thoughts anyone? I don't think it'll make a big difference, since most people that buy a PS3, buy the 60 GB one. |
It wont be, I believ about 80-90% of all PS3s sold were the 60G version, which obviously means people were just bitching about the price, and still bought the exspensive version, meaning they were all hypocrites. I personally was planning on getting the cheap one though.
|
Good, 20GB is for suckers.
|
The only thing the the 60G has over the 20G aside from a bigger HD is card slots. That was really all that I worried about.

Becasue everyone sad charging $600 was too much, including the fanboys, and then they run out and buy the one that is $600.

I think it's the same thing here. At least for me, it would either end in buying the much better 60GB $600 PS3 or just not buying one at all. But like I said, I'm not really sure what exactly are the major differences between the 20GB and the 60GB. Despite all of this, I doubt I would even end up using the 20GB of the hard drive anyway though. |
That's why we always wait a few years to buy a console. I still have fun on my Danger: Xbox and will wait for the 360 to be marked down. My brother? He's re-hooked on Breath of Fire III. Plus, Eric (my dad) won't let me get one on the grounds that "I play enough video games as it is."
|
See, the only thing I cared about on the 60G was teh card slots, passed that, I dont give a fuck about the features. And dear god, BoF3... man, must resist playing... must... resist...
|
people would buy the 20gb one if it was worth it, but apparently it's not. So the reason people are bitching about the price is because they pretty much have to buy the 60gb one or else they are throwing away five hundred dollars on something that isn't worth the money (from what I have been told). From the little I know about it, Sony made the 20gb one so undesirable to anyone who wants the system that they are pretty much forcing consumers to buy the 60gb one anyway.
That's why people are complaing about the price, people who say it's too expensive aren't buying the system. If the system was five hundred bucks and worth it you bet the 20gb sales would go sky high, since it's obvious the price tag is one of the main reasons no one is buying the ps3 to begin with. |
Yeah, if you're going to spend that money on something, at least make it as worth it as possible.
As for the features and pricing... |
Wow, no wifi, chrome or card readers, meh. The only thing worth noting is the lack of card slots, past that, nothing. The core 360 was missing farm more features compared to the premium.
|
No wi-fi is pretty lame, but regardless the type of people willing to spend that much money on a system are willing to spend a little more to get everything out of it. Yea the core x-box has no hard drive and all that but people buy it because it's 300 bucks and worth the money since the system has good games and is somewhat affordable. While the ps3 just came out and has no good games so owning the thing is a luxury, if you're going to buy one be kind of dumb not to get the full set up since you're still paying too much no matter what you do.
Still no way I'd buy one for that price, ::shrugs:: I think Sony has come to the obvious conclusion the only people who will buy their system as of right now are fan boys and people with far too much money to throw away. Things may change in the future, but at the moment Sony is just trying to get as much money out of the core fan base who want the system as possible. They could have charged a 1000 bucks a system and fan boys would still buy it I'm sure. When the price goes down two hundred bucks and the system has good exclusive games things may pick up but as of right now the system is a luxury and nothing more. |

Just because someone thinks the price tag is ridiculous, doesn't mean they don't still want it bad enough, so there's no contradiction. Don't get me wrong; I think it's stupid to keep bitching about the price tag even though you're buying it anyway, but hypocrisy, it ain't. |
Yeah, but most said they would never pay for the $600 version. Me, I can afford it after 4 months of work, 3 if there is a price drop.
|
Four months of work to buy one system? Okay... doesn't that sound very very wrong? Why buy it now anyway? What big system sellers are out? Resistance? uhmm.... virtua fighter 5? Wait that's not exclusive, devil may cry 4 just lost exclusive, metal gear solid will probably lose exclusive (and most likely metal gear will even be on the wii, why would solid snake be in the new smash brothers if konami had no interest in putting metal gear on the wii?). Heavenly sword is published by sony so that will stay on the system but what else is it worth buying for? Heck even square enix might take final fantasy off the ps3, so what's the point? Do you really like the home feature? Do you really like blue-ray? Do you want to download ps 1 games?
It's one thing to like a system but to buy a ps3 now? Even in four months what is coming out that makes it worth it? Maybe I'm just ignortant to something that's coming out, because I don't get it. |
Im not saying I'll buy it in 4 months, but my paychek would allow me to. Im holding out till Lair at least, and then I'll pick up Res, AC4, and VF5 all at once probably. I dont care if some are multi, Lair sold the system for me.
|
4 months to make $600? That sounds even more questionable than the PS3 price tag. :p
But I so agree with BitVyper. I don't think any console or computer I've ever bought was worth the price tag, with very few exceptions. Actually, maybe no exceptions. Buying consoles is like choosing a political candidate to vote for. There is no good choice, there's just the least horrible choice. :) |
I make $150 a month. And yes, I would agree, consoles are ver worth their prices, till like 4 years later when they are $100 and have huge bargain bins.
|

But seriously, it is difficult to save money for expensive console systems, then you buy it only to find out they've dropped the price a week later. That's why I've gone to the bargain bins to flesh out my PS2 collection and waste time until Sony has a feasible price for their new system and/or have a game lineup that justifies such a large expenditure. |
Im holding off on buying a PS3 till either Summer 07, ot maybe even after my birthday in January, when I would have $800 (I dont get presents, I get cash) I think I am more likely to raid bargain bins for PS2, and maybe buy a GC and a DS first, though getting a GC for 2 games (Battalion Wars, Twin Snakes) feels kinda dumb.
|
Do you really need all those systems? I work my guts out just to maintain my lifestyle, let alone contemplate multiple system purchases. I've had to make a lot of tough choices regarding systems, and third-party support has been the deciding factor everytime (goddamn Squeenix for their switch to Sony from Nintendo), so I've missed out on a lot of games.
This is why I'm holding off on buying this particular gen of consoles, these little marketing strategies they seem to be playing..... If everyone goes everywhere with everything (hope you followed that), then I'll settle for the cheapest option, best graphics or not. Bah, I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up. |

Seriously, that is the point, I am buying a GC for 2 games, that seems stupid. |

well, yeah, I guess... I still wish I could get a hold of a 20G PS3, I dont have wireless internet, and never will, wifi is worthless to me.
|
You might be able to get a hold of one in Australia. We generate electricity by rubbing two sticks together here still.
|
You want the gamecube for twin snakes and battalion wars? Well you might as well just get a wii since you can play those games on the wii and a sequel to battalion wars is coming out for the wii soon anyway. I agree though it's kind of silly to buy a system for two games... but you want to buy the ps3 for lair, which is one game and all the other games you want on it are multiplatform, so isn't that kind of silly too?
Also, you say you make 150 a month, so that's four months of work, but then you have to factor in tax which is going to be about ::thinks:: fifty bucks or so and then you have to buy a game since the system doesn't even come with one so that's another sixty bucks (less if you buy a used game, like thirty or fourty) and then you have to pay about five bucks more in tax on the game so your ps3 will really come out to about seven hundred give or take ten, fifteen bucks. If you buy the premium x-box 360 you can spend about two hundred dollars less and get all the games you want except Lair. So realistically you're spending two hundred + dollars for the game Lair, which one of the big features is it uses the six axis, which you can get on the wiimote... So the ps3 has about ::thinks:: what 4 big exclusive games? Lair, Heavenly Sword and ffXIII (which may not stay exclusive) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (which also may not stay exclusive?) Make it five if we add Resistance. The Wii has about ... let's see... Metrioid Prime 3, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Dragon Quest Swords, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Harvest Moon Heroes, A new Kirby game, Mario Party 8, No More Heroes, Animal Crossing, the new Paper Mario game that just came out and Resident Evil umbrella chronicals. (give or take three or four (even five or six, hell even seven or eight) games if you don't think some of those are important exclusives). The 360 has Halo 3, Crackdown, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Gears of War,Rainbow Six vegas, Elder Scrolls IV, The force unleashed (I think that's what it's called), and a few more good exclusives that don't come to mind AND it has the games you want coming out for the ps3 Armored core 4, virtua fighter five etc. etc. So you want to spend six hundred and fifty or more dollars on a system alone for four or five exclusives and of those exclusives there's a good chance one or even two of them won't stay exclusive. While you think it's stupid to buy a gamecube for two games (a system that costs a hundred and ten or so dollars after tax). I'm sorry but that doesn't make much sense. It's one thing to want the ps3 to say you want the ps3 to have it and nothing more, but to say you want it for Lair and games that will be on the 360 anyway it's all just kind of crazy. If the system was CHEAP that's a different story, people bought the n64 for a handful of great exclusive games, but the n64 didn't cost six hundred dollars. I know I'm going on and on here and I'm not trying to give you a hard time or anything, but the point is what you're saying sounds like you just really like Sony and want to support them. I wouldn't let them pull the wool over your eyes any longer, the system (as of right now, things may change) is not worth the price no matter how you slice it. Maybe even a year from now it still won't be unless there is a ton of stuff going on I don't know about in the ps3's future. We're all gamers here on this forum, so from one gamer to another, don't let Sony rob you right now. If you want the ps3 fine, but really wait it out, because buying the system for a few exclusives while the other systems out there have much more to offer (and even a better or at the least similar gaming experience (with the wii) to a game like lair) isn't worth it. Sorry if that was too ranty... hope I was able to make my point without coming off like a fanboy/rude/ignorant jerk. |

And too much emphasis on exclusives. I know some can be great and all, but it comes down to what you can play on a given console. Like Spiderman 3: I'd count that as a tick for the PS3 regardless of whether or not it's multiplatform. It's a tick for all gamers! (Except PC...d'oh?). But as far as buying a 60GB PS3 is concerned, I personally wouldn't unless it's got maybe five or six nice titles, minus a few if I had an HDTV. :p I don't know about it's backwards compatibility either, but that's even more to do and a big plus (I know it was for my PS2 playing PS games, actually, 75% of my game playing on my PS2 were with PS games). PS3 for Lair = boo. PS3 for Resistance, Lair, Spiderman 3, NFS:C, Saints Row, getting warmer. Personally, I'm just going to be swapping my Wii for my friends PS3 in the summer. |
I want, Resisitance, MGS4 (which Koima swears will not get ported, likely due to some Sixaxis stuff he needs for a boss or something) and a few other PS3 games that arent out yet. Very few 360 games interst me, and the ones that do also have PS3/PC ports. I also just plain dont like Nintendo, I really didnt play any 1st party games even on my 64. And I my paycked comes to $76 every 2 weeks. Also, I heard you will eventually be able to play the PS1 games that are on PSP on the PS3, as well as maybe, a UMD add on, which would rock, and, NIS and Team Ico are Sony exsclusive, and they are like my favourite devs.
I would feel for me specifically, that a PS3 is a justified purchase, as Wii and 360 hold littel interest for me, as I generally dont like Nintedno and MS's style of games, with the exception of a few. Also, GCs in my area are like $50 used, and the games I want are about $20 becasue they are used and on sale, the EB wants to clear out the entire stock of GC and XB stuff to make more room for the PS3 and Wii stuff. |
