Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: The Remake.

Yep, capcom are remaking this for 360 and PS3. Puzzle Fighter is also getting the HD treatment, with Udon Comics doing the artwork for both games. Puzzle Fighter HD will also get a PC release.

The Capcom arcade classic receives a whole new look as Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix comes to both the, PLAYSTATION® Network and Xbox LIVE this fall. Capcom will maintain the integrity of the popular game by utilizing the original game code while upgrading the graphics with new artwork and high resolution 1080p images. Again, all of the art, from character animation to stage backgrounds, will be completely redrawn by Udon Entertainment, the company responsible for the official US Street Fighter series of comics. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will include both online and offline competition for one to two players.

The presence of Sol Badguy was a low blow, Cap'.

But yeah this looks pretty sweet. If I had a 360 I'd nab this.

I still have been putting off trying Street Fighter, better start soon.

I'd be more excited about this had I not played Street Fighter 2 many years ago. It's the same problem I have with Guilty Gear. I wish the developers would stop remaking old games and just put out a new one. That said I'll probably still buy it.

They should remake Street Fighter 1. Now that would be awesome.

I don't know. I think the point was: "Hey, here's our old crappy sprite. See how crappy it is? Now here's one of the better sprites that we've seen in a fighting game to date (Sol), now check out what we're doing with our NEW ones..."

If anything it was more a compliment to GG, by showing them off as the current 'sprites to beat'.

They did... It's the Alpha series

No, that supposedly predates SF1, not that the original had a plotline to speak of...

But seriously, is a remake necessary? I thought that game was alright as it was, no sprite tweaking can make it better, only a physics engine overhaul would improve it. But that might entail changing it to the point where it wouldn't be what we remembered 13 years ago.

Jagos 04-15-2007 12:58 PM

I thought Alpha 3 was supposed to be right before SF2 with a lot of characters being taken down, or simply disappearing?

Wait, is Sammy Studios a subsidiary of Capcom?

Mr. Viewtiful 04-15-2007 11:32 PM

While this is cool and all, I just wish they'd make Street Fighter 4 already. There's already over half a dozen variations of Street Fighter II and at least three of Street Fighter III (not to mention it's been about a decade since the third installment of the series).

If it wasn't for EA hogging the liscence, I'd rather they do an HD remake of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Strider/Doom traps in widescreen high definition? Sign me up!

Magus 04-17-2007 10:34 AM

Yeah, you know, I was thinking to myself yesterday, "Man, I wish they'd re-released Street Fighter II again, with the exact same gameplay, but this time with HIGH DEFINITION sprites."
