Jack Thompson backs down....

http://www.thelastboss.com/post.phtml?pk=2660

As much as I am shocked to see Thompson stepping away from a video game company, let alone his immortal rival Take Two, something tells me that this is only a "face value" defeat. He'll find some way to get around it (and by that, I mean violate the agreement completely and then act like he never agreed to it).

There isn't much left to say about Jack Thompson these days. I'm just glad we actually can rely on him shutting up about GTA for like two goddamn days.

I'm just wondering if he ends up fucking up their court order and having himself sentenced to fines. That would be hilarious.

And in case anyone missed it in the last thread...

Actually...

Thompson is not restricted from criticizing the content of T2 games, nor is he prevented from acting as counsel in lawsuits brought against Take Two by other parties
This won't shut him up, it'll just keep him from filing suit and threatening to file suit.

Well that's kind of what I meant by "Keeping his mouth shut." Probably should have been more specific, though. Sorry.

YAY! This bit of news has made my day that much better. It's a 4/20 miracle!

So basically, he can still rant as much as he wants, he just can't add the words "I'm filing blah blah blah."

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad for any victory, but it seems like so much more could be done. Maybe other companies could start these procedings, so he goes from "crusader" to "guy who sits over there and yells at you". As it stands, though, it's all good. I mean, the fact that he backed down so quickly has got to cost him some part of whatever credibility he has to the news media.

But don't you see? Now that 1 company has managed to stop him suing them, if he goes after any others, they can try and do the same. At last we have a weapon against JT (Here-after reffered to as "The Skurge"). Take away his one and only power, the power to sue people, and what can he possibly do? Nothing, that's what!

Yes, soon my friends, The Skurge will indeed be "guy who sits over there and yells at you".

Victory is at hand, let us press the attack! Games companies: Counter-sue! Or whatever it's actually called.

That's the real good news behind this. Jack Thompson's only credibility is the fact that he's a (supposedly) respected lawyer.

Now if he no longer has the power to actually put legal discipline out, he really doesn't have anything, and he'll go where the rest of the ranting loonies go; Out on the streetcorner, holding signs of apocalypse.

It's true that Take 2 has gotten a nice victory and turned him into just some old guy who yells a lot, but the best is yet to come. You see ol' Jacky just bit off more than he can chew. He's trying to stir some shit up with one of the most powerful men the world... Bill Gates

I can't comprehend what could make Jack to something that stupid, I mean Bill Gates could murder you by himself in broad daylight with 50 witnesses including your family and that shit wouldn't even show up on the news, much less go to trial. Frankly this would be like taking a piss on Sadam Hussien's shoe when he was still a dictator. I don't know what Bill Gates will do, but there is no way he will let Jack get away with this.
