Even still...graphics are an important part of Final Fantasy? The thought seems somewhat strange to me.

I don't think I made any particular statement regarding the Wii and PS2, and I would be disadvantaged in doing so anyway, because it's comparing two different generations. What statement I might make is one comparing the three consoles of the present generation, Wii, PS3, or 360. Of which, the Wii is the
distant third.
And is there any particular thing I can say to make the thought seem less strange for you? Final Fantasy games have, since 7, for me, always been pushing the graphical envelope. While a lot of RPGs are content with their 2D graphics, or their cell shading, or what have you, I've always seen the FFs (and make no mistake, I'm sure there's others too, that isn't the topic of discussion) improving their engine and well, making the pretty standard RPG fare much more pleasing to the eye. 8 improved drastically on 7, 9 on 8, 10 on 9, skip 11 because screw MMOs, 10-2 even improved on 10, and 12 improved once more. Given we've experienced another new generation AND the wider spreading of HDTV, I'd say I do expect a pretty huge upgrade for 13. Given some of the vague trailers, I might get what I want...but...It might be too early to tell.

That's great. I'll assume this is at least partially directed toward me, it seems fitting. I don't think I ever made any sweeping claim about playing a game solely for graphics. Now, making a decision to buy a game taking in graphics as a variable, and having it affect my bottom line decision? Sure, that's possible. Yeah, FF7 was all fine and dandy. If they released some clone of FF7 with the same graphics, right now, and charged $69.99 for it, I wouldn't buy that. I doubt I would pay half that.
Also, games are for entertainment. If visuals entertain me, so be it, a graphical game could do its job with me. As it stands, visuals alone don't sell games for me, but since this is an open discussion, I would rather choose a more graphically pleasing Final Fantasy game over a less graphically pleasing one, i.e. an Xbox 360 port over a Wii port. I might bitch about the control scheme too; I see an RPG as a sit down comfort game, something the Wii definitely struggles at compared to the other two competitors.
