About spambots...

I've seen that spambots come to the forums advertising things like "Generic viagra" or anything with that effect, and most of their links have viruses or Spyware. so to fix this problem, I suggest this...

http://www.gearhack.com/Articles/FightSpam/

Back at my other forum, a friend of mine suggested this. It's a database with the IP's of spambots, and it would reduce the rate of spambots that come here by a massive level. Besides, having one (or two) every day is kind of annoying.

So, what do you guys think?

Most of them get banned before they even have a chance to post- the mods are ever-vigilante and will probably reply before I finish typing. I don't see the need for any mods or lists of IPs, since most are probably banned already.

Nice, but hell, you should look at other forums. The other forum I got to gets about 1-3 bots every day, and in spring break we've had 7 spambots, in a single day! Although mods don't care about them, since they edit their post and lock the thread, just to make members laugh.

And for a moment I thought you were banned my friend, apparently I was wrong. Mmsii.

We haven't had much spambot trouble lately - they sign up in great numbers, but I think the Rules Acceptance thread throws them for a loop. That said, I for one am definitely going to look into this. Sounds great.

Ah, I knew the moment I signed up that thread had served some sort of purpose!!

Yeah, it's great. It also has the purpose of making you guys explicitly state that you accept the rules.

The only adspammers who get by are actual people.

I don't know if the administrators know this, but did you guys get 6 bots this morning? On my other forum, the moderators record the bots we get for everyone to see, and they leave the thread for fun, after editing their post of course. Here is the list of the 5 bots we had in the morning...

Rfjnsdao
sealionxxx
SmiTHxx
searchaab
searchaac
searchaaa

3 of the first that were advertising porn, and the last two being part of the fourth one. So did you guys had them too this morning?

Although I doubt they could have managed to raid the forum, seeing that the acceptance of the rules thing traps them.

I hate you.

searchaad is the newest member at this point. I'm blaming Dead Phoenix here for this one.
Okay not really.

And you might just be the most recent bot we had over there on my forum. You are responsible for attracting them. Do you even know what that means?

*Goes GoW chainsaw on him*

Just kidding. Although I have some of their screenshots since I took them from my forum. I have quite a bundle of them saved on the depths of my PC, labeled as "black listed sites" that I might be going to do some *stuff* with them.

Porn bots are my precious I tell you... my precious...*hisses*[/gollum]

I'm in your forum, posting messages!

Having an inflated memberlist is funny.

ClanBOB has a TON of bots registered, but the fact that we don't activate accounts automatically means that they don't have the privilege of posting until long after they were programmed to try. And then we leave them there, in the chance that they are real people or to prevent that name from re-registering. *shrug*

This might be fun to have.
