Oh, wow. Oblivion has a ton of nice, balanced mods. I highly suggest Alive Waters. Absolutely beautiful, if a bit glitchy in the shallows. Also, if I can get it to work, there's a nice one called MC Staff Pack that adds combat staves to the game. Unfortunately, I need to get far enough again to test it. I lost all my saves in a major error on my part.
Another one I like is the Ring of Wings mod, but you have to be careful with it. They removed levitation spells to avoid loading crashes not present in Morrowind's engine, so you'll crash if you go over a city wall. It also has the nasty habit of taking you above the ceiling indoors and trapping you above the room or down a bottomless pit if you fall off. Edit: I highly suggest joining TESSource and looking at their selection. Actually, anything under 2MB(?) is open to the general public, but registration is free. Edit^2: That's right. They're moving the data to a new server. You can still access the files through this backdoor. http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=3934 . |
Speaking of the Elder Scrolls, if anyone knows of a mod that transforms Oblivion into Morrowind point me in that direction.
|
They might be working on it, the general consensus being Morrowind was better, but I doubt it's finished at this time.
Train your Google-fu, grasshopper. |
Actually, in the 360, if you boost your speed and Acrobatics high enough, it's possible to jump over the walls in the imperial city. (being a vampire helps). outside the walls is a half-loaded version of the rest of the world. it's kinda cool, but I got myself stuck. You can still fast travel out of there though.

Lets see the other day in the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion a spent a couple hours with the joystick rammed forward with a rubber band while in sneak mode next to a city guard. I have 100 sneak now. I use the training from all those levels to get my to 75 Armorer which means I just have to buy some armor and dupe it a few thousand times and repair my way to 100 armorer. Currently I'm locked in battle with a random bandit with the block button jammed in. The fight has lasted so long that I gained 30 block and she broke her weapon on my shield. I'll use the levels from this to train acrobatics or maybe blade. Then I'll ram the joystick forward again and swim into a pull to level Athletics to 100. After that I might actually play for a bit.

Is there any mod that makes the combat a little more...exciting? That seems the only drawback of this game.

I like the combat the way it is- if you know your hotkeys for spells, it's actually really good for blocking, spellcasting and parrying.
Also, I disagree with using glitches to max out skills that are so EASY to increase. Bleah. I'm a stealth based character, but I made all my primary leveling skills things that are only leveled when you focus on them, and things not neccessary- things like Armourer, Alchemy, etc. Things that aren't REALLY neccessary. So far, my sneak hit 100 just from my theives guild quests and from randomly stealing from guards. Does anyone else find that lockpicking is incredibly easy if you're patient enough? On my latest character, I picked a very hard lock with a security of 7. :/ |

I just went on a modding spree, actually. I use a lot of mods from this site. |
Lockpicking might be easier on computers than on Xbox. My friend had a really easy time with it on computer, and said it was harder when he tried it at my house, but I guess that might just have been him. Personally, I just get into the thieves guild, make sure I always have a shitload of lockpicks, and auto-pick it. I'm really just too lazy to do anything else, unless I only have a few left.
