Sony killing goats?

This may be old news for some of you, but this is just wrong

what the hell?

it could be worse. people could be upset about the partial nudity in that picture instead of the headless goat.

That article was slightly humorous. The end result is just going to more publicity for Sony which of course is going to lead to more money, not like they need it, but hey go with whatever works.

But the article talks about Greek Orgies, topless women, throwing knives and reaching in to grab live snakes. But what are they concern about? The dead goat. But with all this, what do they line the bottom of the article with, deaths supposedly linked to Manhunt and GTA. Go figure.

Granted i'll admit, perhaps that was a little extreme, but than again no one's saying that someone from Sony went out and slaughtered a goat for that purpose. They just used a dead animal which dates back to ages ago. Medieval times people used to eat dead lamb, Greek times they did that. So this really isn't too big of a deal.

I just laugh that this is such a "big" Controversy. In the end, this is nothing new and nothing that should spark protestors.

They bought it from a butcher's. Know who else buys dead animals from butcher's? People who aren't vegetarians.

You can always argue about tastefulness - I wouldn't include something like this if I organized such an event, but if you're set on doing the "offal from a goat's body" thing, you can either get a body made from styrofoam and fur or you can go to the butcher's. And don't forget you have to kill a goat to get the fur.

It is in bad taste, indeed.

But offensive?
Go to a butcher. There's dead animal flesh on display.
Go to a market and visit a fish stand. There's dead fish on display.

Not offensive. Just... in bad taste.

Crashtester 04-30-2007 11:33 AM

I agree that the dead animal isn't a huge deal, yes we see dead animals all the time... but one of the selling points is to behead the goat? Bad taste is an understatement that's just down right stupid. A butcher doesn't make a show of what he's doing, it's not an event, this is, so i wouldn't say the two are exactly the same thing.

As for the nudity, people tend to not complain about top less girls too often (okay they do... ::sigh) and if they do... well the girls can put their top back on at the end of the night, a goat can't get its head and internal organs back.

Maybe they were trying to recreate a sacrifice, although I've no idea how historically accurate this display would be in that regard. I guess you could justify it by arguing that being a sacrifice is more honorable for the animal that ending up in the slaughterhouse, although I imagine if you're the goat neither is too appealing. And anyway, sacrificing to a video game? Now there's a can of worms.

Sometimes it seems that Sony goes out of their way to generate bad press.

I'm sure few people were actually offended, but the entire ordeal was in very, very poor taste.

On the other hand, it's a fairly memorable event. Gotta give the marketing guys props for that I suppose.

The funny part is, it fits into context of the game, what with the Greek sacrifices to Zeus and such.

Yeah, in the same way that EA employees taking up arms, donning red/black uniforms, and killing or capturing the neighboring communities they deem unworthy, would fit into the context of CnC, 'cause it's what Nod was/is still doing.
