Do Lawyers Take it Too Far?

The story is here.

Reading stories like this honestly pisses me off. It seems to me like many people become lawyers just so they can sue people for massive sums of money. And this guy is a judge!!!

Argh. I'm almost so angry after reading this article that I can't discuss it. For those who haven't read it, a judge in Washington decided to sue a pair of South Korean immigrants $65 million because they lost his suit pants for a week. And yeah, they even found his pants.

How??? Why is it that people who make the laws seem so consumed with trivial things that shouldn't even matter just so they can make money, when there's actual issues they should be dealing with.

It seems like to me he's simply out to destroy a poor couple who got him on a bad day. As if they actually have that money!!! He takes the whole lawyer = scum-sucking-money-monger a little too far...

This guy really went way too far. In my opinion, even the first settlement offer was too much. It's a pair of pants, for crying out loud. They found them, and that should have been the end of it.

$15,000 to pay for car rentals so he can use a different dry cleaner? That's clearly a load of crap. How does he get around now, and why would using that be such a bad idea?

This is just one of those stories that really seem to support the idea that the system has failed. The fact that you can twist the laws in such ways as to be able to claim $65 million because someone lost your pants for a week is beyond absurd.

I really hope this guy gets disbarred. Anyone willing to do this kind of action should not be in any position of authority.

And a judge of all people. One whose job is supposed to be tossing out cases like this, not creating them. Disbarment, removal from office, and jail time, in my opinion.

I think it might be a good lesson to all the people out there that try pushing frivolous lawsuits, if this guy reimburced this couple for everything his idiocy has made them go through.
He might even be allowed to keep his license if he does this.

I take offense to the whole lawyers are evil people who ruin your lives thing. This guy is just the extreme of the dickish lawyer thing. There are lawyers who do great things for people, but no one ever talks about them, they only talk about jerk-offs like this guy who is suing 2 immigrants based on complete crap.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but that's even more ridiculous than the whole hot coffee thing with McDonalds. Also who the hell owns a blue suit with red pinstripes...I mean that's just like buying a clown suit without being a clown.
He won't win...any judge in their right mind would throw that case right out.

This country has far to many lawyers, in my opinion. I don't have any proof of this right now, but I do know that the United States has far more lawyers relative than population size than other countries. It's just so easy to pick up a lawsuit over something trivial, and then make big money, that tons of people end up taking up law to make a quick buck. The nation really needs to rethink how easily lawsuits are handed out, and stop making being a lawyer so attractive.

Where I live(Western NY) i heard on the radio about a case, where a police officer was three times the blood alcohol level allowed for driving, hit someone on a bike(Eye witness said the motorcyclist was going the speed limit, cop said otherwise, "Expert" was called in by cops lawyer to say otherwise). Normally this results in manslaughter, yes?

Well, the cop was acquited of all charges. His lawyer managed to weasal out of the whole thing by proving to the judge that "The defendent's inebriation was not 100% certain to be at fault for the accident".

Personal Opinion: Some lawyers are needed, lawyers that exist to do crap like that need to be shot.

Well, a criminal defense lawyer has a duty to use every available (and legal) means to defend his client. Instead of dissing on the lawyer who exploited a loophole, you should be outraged that the loophole itself exists.

Also, about the the McDOnald's case, wasn'tt he coffee at like 85 oC? Thats eighty-five percent of bioling temperature of water!, come on people it caused third degree burns. Plus, the award was knocked WAY down on appeal.

And yet, 50% of boiling temperature has no effect whatsoever.
