I wish I could say this surprised me.

You'll have to scroll down to where Rich Stevens makes his blog posts.

But if you want a summary first, a webcartonnist was fired from his job for talking to a coworker about a hobby of his; paper target shooting. He made a comic about this, which the police seem to regard as "making a terroristic threat."

What the hell? That's insane.

Fuck that comic is my avatar, I'm probably "making a terroristic threat" just by typing anything at all.

You're a suicide bomber with words

and not dying

And also...people aren't allowed to shoot guns at a supervised range anymore? With a gun that (as he described in the comic) really won't kill anything without trying really hard...what the hell is going on?...

And wouldn't the police be more suspect to go on a rampage. I mean they probably have some PCP and stuff in their station. Start taking that and then since they're allowed guns...

Wouldn't they be more likely rather than a man working in a federal building who would never be allowed to bring a weapon on to the grounds since he's probably frisked daily and asked to open any packages. And even if he mailed it to himself at work the package would be inspected...

well I guess you just can't talk about guns in front of idiots anymore. Apparently even basic English is out of their grasp these days...If that's exactly what he said I don't understand how that would make anyone nervious...ok so the VA shootings happened resently but that's no excuse for not understanding English.

People heard a guy at work talk about firing a gun, they saw on the news about some guy running around killing people, they thought "Oh Mah Gawd MEESA GONNA DIE!!"

It has nothing to do with reason and everything to do with the incompatibility of the human brain and mass broadcast media.

I don't know whats worse, the fact that this is true, or the fact that I've heard dumber. Seriously, I talk about how I want to go paintballing all the time. Am I a terrorist too? Uh oh! They're coming to get me!

What next? Banning supersoakers because some idiot filled his with something from under the kitchen sink?

Nique 05-04-2007 06:03 AM

When did context stop mattering at all? I mean this is our situation;
"I want a gun"
"Ok"
"I want a gun that is really hard to hurt/ kill someone with"
"I DIAL 911 NOW!"

Also, fifth, we should have like a forum version of 'citizens arrest', becuase I would totally ban you for quoting *shudder* Jar Jar Binks. :(

adamark 05-04-2007 10:50 AM

I want a gun as well! I've been talking about getting a glock for months now (among my close friends, I want them to adopt the sport too). The gun I want is the same gun the VA shooter used. Pure coincidence. But people are stupid. People are really fucking stupid. Zero-tolerance doesn't give any consideration to context or meaning.

"You said 'bomb', you can't say 'bomb' on an airplane!"
"No, I said 'it's NOT like I HAVE a bomb'."
"YOU CAN'T SAY BOMB!"
"BOM, BOM, BOM, BOM, BOM BE DE BOM"
*dragged off kicking and screaming*

This man, like so many others, is the victim of a rigid, nonsensical system. Be a robot, conform, don't say the wrong thing or you will be PURGED.

At school, every night, every time security walked past our classroom, I'd loudly say, "I have a fucking gun!" My teacher would start giggling as the Security popped his head in, glared at me, then walked on.

College is fun.

I don't think people actually understand what terrorism actually MEANS anymore. Specifically, the people who say shit like, "Oh, you own a gun, you're a bad man!" "Oh, you listen to Disco, You're A bad man!" "Oh, You watch Al-Jazeera, you're a bad man!"

Does anyone have the Webster's dictionary definition on the word available?

This is a nice example of "government" versus "country." Our troops are not dying for their country; they are dying for their government. One which has lied to the public, defied the rest of the world, suspended our American freedoms in freedom's very name, and destabilized an entire geographic region for the next 20 years. The president is not our leader, nor is congress or the Supreme Court. The Constitution of the United States is our sovereign.

I am an American patriot. I support the country and the troops. I do not support the current government.
