Oh, and Celes didn't get punched in her jail cell. Incidentally, I don't remember that very same guard getting up in her face and yelling like that repeatedly in the original version, either, with it appearing as if he was holding her by the throat. So, I dunno, seems the Empire was as brutal as ever and the danger to Celes in that situation was quite visibly apparent to me.

I'd much rather stick with the original translation, thank ya much. I've known of plenty of people who have a problem with the SNES dialogue because it doesn't really make a big deal out of being serious. But I personally think it fits the world of FF6 quite well. And besides that, I grew up with Ted Woosely, as did us all. I should think it's a little hard to let go.

FFVI Advance doesn't appeal to me largely because the GBA is incapable of effectively pulling off the same types of features the SNES was able to utilize successfully.

Is that Akihiko Yoshida redoing Yoshitaka Amano's cherished character designs?

I'm sold. If they just weren't doing another sequel for FFXII...

The remakes don't bother me, mostly because I stopped truly enjoying Square's games a long time ago. at least this way they're making something I like.

Eh, I was ready to let it go around the time they referred to Shadow as "her" in the Veldt cave, personally. Frankly, having my favorite characters actually communicate with each other like human beings with sensical lines and more coherent exposition far outweighs the loss of "son of a submariner".

I never finished FFIVA, I got to the moon and got bored.

Personally I have no idea why they're doing this. Someone who has to have FFIV in 3D to get them to play it shouldn't be playing FFIV. Anyway, I foresee 3D FFV and FFVI, but uhh, FFVI for one I don't see going with the FFIX graphics, it would require realistic proportions ala FFVII or VIII. And that would just be sad, really.

The games are already very nice looking, after all. I don't think I can stomach buying these AGAIN.

EDIT: ERGGH! UGH! THAT CECIL! AAGH! IT HURTS MY EYES.

This game is really ugly. It is a travesty. Terrible redesigns.

Any information on whether or not there will be new content (more content/side-quests) than what FFIV Advance had? If they actually add in more side-quests at the end and/or add more quests into the actual plot without screwing it up I could be persuaded. FFIV on SNES (FFII) was the game that made me fall in love with RPGs really and the story is sacred to me. Despite all that, as long as they keep it consistent with regular story and they keep the spoony bard line in I will be tempted to buy it.

Magus 05-10-2007 09:11 PM

By consistent with regular story, do you mean having the characters actually die? 'Cause that wouldn't be conducive to more content (heck, getting the weapons for them was pretty much all the extra there was to do in FFIVA...), but it would be far more in line with the regular story.

I'm going to finalize my opinion as 1. Superflous, but 2. Not a bad idea, BUT 3. Bad execution, I don't like the style (it's mainly Cecil's face that's got me down right now, besides his body...)

They should've made it look like the concept art there at the top with Cecil, Rosa, and Kain. Even if there is less detail, if it is sharper and the polygons less pixelated I think it is far superior. It's basically looking like a PSX game, and we know the DS can look like an N64 game. They should go for the latter.

Then we'd have Batman in FF IV

I still hate the idea.

Magus 05-10-2007 09:50 PM

I didn't mean the Amano Golbez or Cecil, I meant simply that scene where they are on the street at night there at the top. They just look like their basic in-game sprites from FFIV but you know full-sized and all. Just do that 3D and I'd be happy. Cecil could even be blue and I wouldn't mind .

Fifthfiend 05-10-2007 11:23 PM

Kinda cool but seriously, Cecil is ugly as sin. Way to harsh my buzz, Square Enix.

Now I know why they still haven't done a 3D Chrono Trigger, they're trying to figure out how to ugly the hell out of it.
