The 2007 Upfronts
It's that time of year again, when the networks unveil thier plans and plots for the coming Fall season.
NBC's Upfronts It seems like it took a cue from the success of Heroes, and have gotten some geeky themed and geek-centric shows (like a remake of The Bionic Woman). Also of interest: The renewal of Heroes is no surprise, but there is a surprise with it, with a six-episode spin-off of the series titled Heroes: Origins. The show will run during the Heroes midseason break, and detail a brand new character each week. The characters' fates will be in the hands of the viewers, as online voting will propel one of the half-dozen new "ordinary people with extraordinary powers" into the following season of Heroes as a regular cast member. The six episodes will bring the total number of Heroes episodes up to 30 for its second season. The sci-fi drama Journeyman stars Kevin McKidd (Tommy from Trainspotting, Lucius from Rome) as a man who is able to travel through time and "fix" people's lives. However, his actions also have unintentional effects on the future. The full lineup is found here, with more details on four shows here. The rest of the networks will announce thier new lineups throughout the week. |

Quantum Leap?

The IT Crowd sounds like an interesting idea for a show.
|
Actually, The IT Crowd looks like one they may be bringing over from England--at least, I'm sure there's a Britcom by the same name.
|
Did you all also hear about LOST voluntarily going off in 2010? Check out the Tonight Show on NBC for that information. Man, I like that show.

I saw it and I'm like..wtf.
Bionic woman That's old school yo. |

Anyway, super-mega-edit to bring you.... ABC's upfronts! Details can be found here. There is something frightening on there, though... Quote:
Also, Lost isn't listed on there. Don't worry, it will be back, but in the mid season, with only 16 back-to-back episodes. Anyway, the rest is listed on there. Have at it! |
I may be wonderful, but considering that I never actually looked at that article, I think I did pretty well =P .
So there actually is, for serious, a television show to be aired based on a series of insurance commercials? I want to cry, but there aren't enough tears. I also kind of want to go off on a rant about more Sex and the City-styled "grown-ups playing really expensive dress-up" shit being dumped onto the screen, but I just don't have the heart. |
CBS's Upfronts
CBS is going the conservative route this year. Which is to say, they're only introducing five new shows (and one new midseason replacement), and got rid of very little. Some weirdness: The reality show, Kid Nation, gives 40 kids 40 days to build a new city in the ghost town of Bonanza City, New Mexico. The kids are between ages 8 and 15 and will be there, sans adults, trying to create a new Old West town. Unlike most reality shows, no one gets voted out of the town but anyone may leave voluntarily. I'm very curious as to how many times producers and/or cameramen had to step in and stop fights or fix problems (not that we'll ever know or be told that such a thing occurred). The Big Bang Theory comes from Two and a Half Men producer Chuck Lorre and focuses on über-nerdy friends who, amazingly, have no problem conversing about the most in-depth scientific issues, but can't talk to women. Well, fish out of water-style, a sexy new single neighbor moves in and the nerds are speechless. Hilarity will ensue. So, the only worthwhile Sitcom on CBS will remain How I Met Your Mother, and they add another weird reality concept to the ever growing list. See the full schedule here. Fox's Upfronts Link. Nothing to exciting here, just standard Fox fare. A few more reality TV series in the fall, nothing major. Couple of interesting concepts: New Amsterdam. John Amsterdam, back in 1642, saved the life of a Native American girl, but took a sword wound for his troubles. The girl in turn saved his life, conferring upon him immortality. Only Amsterdam's good friend, Omar, knows the truth, but he has a few secrets of his own. Things get even more weird as the Native American's prophesy about a soul mate starts to come true. The Sarah Connor Chronicles. This show takes place following Sarah's destruction of the liquid metal Terminator (Terminator 2: Judgment Day). She and John are fugitives, and enemies from the past, present, and future are always a threat. CW's Upfronts As if anyone really cares. Smallville is back, Veronica Mars is gone, they keep trying to get that young, hip audience. New show of potential interest: Reaper. A 21-year-old slacker finds out that his parents, back in the day, sold his soul to the devil . Now the poor guy has to serve as the devil's bounty hunter, tracking down evil escaped souls. My, that sounds a lot like this show Fox had several years back. What was it? Oh yeah. Brimstone. |
