Guess they dropped the initial storyline they had where he was training people(Who used high tech gear), and then things went bad and they had to learn how to do it RAMBOOOO style.

Grandmaster_Skweeb 05-21-2007 05:32 AM

Bah, who needs high tech doodads when you can rip throats out with your bare hands?

Not Rambo, thats for sure!

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 05-21-2007 11:39 AM

Why is it always a rescue mission?

Major Blood 05-21-2007 02:24 PM

Allright, someone explain this to me:

1st movie - First Blood
2nd movie - Rambo First Blood Part 2
3rd movie - Rambo 3
4th Movie - John Rambo

What in the hell happened to the titles? Would it really have been that terrible to just call them Rambo 1, 2, 3, and 4?

POS Industries 05-21-2007 02:38 PM

Well, when they made "First Blood", they weren't actually trying to make a whole movie franchise. It was just about this half-crazy battle-hardened supersoldier who couldn't adapt to life after the war, so he made his own war and has to be stopped. It was a smash it and then, because movie execs are stupid assholes, they just tried to make a whole action series around the Rambo character and it was terrible.

This, however, looks interesting, as it actually appears to return to the character-driven piece that "First Blood" was. Like what they tried to do with "Rocky Balboa" except not stupid.

Darth SS 05-21-2007 08:30 PM

I think the first Rambo was a great movie for one reason only.

He says "John Rambo," then doesn't speak for about half an hour. Instead, he conveys his message with pain.

Magus 05-26-2007 02:36 AM

They should've called it Rambo IV: The Ramboing.

Seriously, I'm not excited about this movie. It has the same sort've crap that "Rocky Balboa" had written all over it: Sylvester Stallone is way too old to make a movie, but he does it anyway, and it's just like all the other ones in the series to boot.

Live Free Or Die Hard blows it out of the water with just a clever TITLE, let alone the fact it is another Die Hard movie. And don't even get me started on Indiana Jones IV.

EDIT: And how are they going to top Rambo shooting people with explosive arrows and then using the gunpowder from one to CAUTERIZE HIS OWN WOUNDS?!

Nique 05-27-2007 02:26 AM

Can't they just make John Rambo have a son or something?

Anyways, yeah I saw the first Rambo on TV, nothing to be to thrilled over IMO. I mean, I watched that 10 minutes in weird al's UHF where he pretends to be Rambo and I pretty much had my fill.

Magus 05-29-2007 12:03 AM

Haha, that brings back memories of UHF.

They probably could remake First Blood with some other action actor to make the franchise young again, but I've never really stood behind remakes unless they're for a movie at least 50 years old or something. Like they want to remake some movie that was only made a few years ago, I can't remember which. It just seemed very pointless to me. First Blood was made quite a few more years ago than that, but I mean, it's in color. On DVD it's probably very sharp and clear and digitally remastered. There's no need to remake it, just like there's very little reason to make a Rambo IV. If a franchise has been dead in the water for two decades or more, I see very little reason to revive it unless it is REALLY old, or it was done badly in the first place, and then I'm usually only behind remakes and stuff (and only if the remakes need to be made, too). That's why I'm not so gung-ho about the other IVs I spoke off earlier, either, Indy IV and Die Hard IV. They've been discontinued for several years now, and in the case of Indy IV I somehow have the feeling they'll screw it up, and much like Star Wars, it's something that HURTS when they screw it up. If Live Free Or Die Hard ends up sucking, it's not going to bother me. If Indy IV ends up sucking, it's going to hurt.

So I'll have that be my last opinion: if Rambo IV sucks, it's not really going to bother me, though I enjoyed the original trilogy enough that I'd rather it DIDN'T suck. And if it's good, well, more power to it, but it's still been out of the loop so long that not a lot of people are going to care.

And having him have a son would be too silly, I guess. Heh, I just said something would be too silly for Rambo. Well, Rambo isn't really SILLY so much as contrived and cliche sometimes (the muscular hero fights off hundreds of men with only his wits and some mediocre weapons, and THEN acquires a chaingun.)
