And also, do they all have to have an instrument, or can my character be a dancer (like, tap dancing)? ^^ I have a great idea for a chracter if so.

Be a drummer or a singer. singers can dance.

I sing to but mostly I'm a bassist.

Tap dancer would work. Special tap dancing shoes that give off a sound wave that disables to robots. Faster dance for a machine gun like effect, slam foot for more powerful attacks.

i'm kind of tempted to make a character that plays an accordian, all kinds of bagpipes and/or clarinets. what does everybody think about it?
